Polluting vehicles could be charged £200 to enter our city centres

http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/upd...-city-centres/

I always wonder what stupid **** keeps finding a way of ripping of the road user.

We have the Congestion Zone in London. And now this ridiculous charge for polluting the air in Southampton
Maybe if local authorities made it easier to get round town, instead of introducing new ruotes.

We have a major problem where l live in Isleworth. They have closed a certain road. And have made matters ten times worse - bumper to bumper vehicles all day, An even our local MP supports the closure.

This is where the problems come in.

Local authorities should make life easier for the motorist - not worse and then penalise them

Since when has a word, that l have ''used' is rude and needs to be bleeped

Re: Another way to make money out of us

Not just Southampton.
Quote:
Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham, Derby and Southampton have been ordered by the Government to impose charges on “clean air zones” in an attempt to cut pollution which experts say causes hundreds of excess deaths a year in Birmingham alone.
Charging is to be introduced by 2020 for high-pollution taxis, buses, coaches, lorries and light goods vehicles such as commercial vans.
Also not a new idea.
Quote:
The first congestion charge in the UK was a much smaller £2 million scheme which has been running in Durham since 2002, however the London scheme was the first large-scale implementation. Following implementation the Institute for Public Policy Research, a left-wing think tank, to call for similar schemes to be rolled out across the country. However, in November 2003, Secretary of State for Transport Alistair Darling said that despite apparent initial interest from many city councils, including those of Leeds, Cardiff, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol, no city apart from Edinburgh had yet approached the Government for assistance in introducing a charge.

If it's good enough for the hell hole that is London, it's good enough for everyone else.

Have you considered public transport?

It's not ripping people off. It's about trying to protect the environment.

LOL, The "environment" is just an excuse, to rip us off.

If they were really that worried they would not keep doing their best to hamper traffic - with bus lanes, bus only routes, narrowing lanes for bikes, lowering speed limits - all things that just cause more Jams, hence more pollution.

---------- Post added at 22:31 ---------- Previous post was at 22:30 ----------

Oh, and guess who will end up paying yet more for our goods, to cover the cost .......

Well maybe they are trying to get people to leave cars at home and take buses or cycle then.

Sorry but i agree the "environment" is a great cover for fleecing people because if they were half as serious about it it wouldn't just be token schemes.

Leave your car at home, use a bus, or taxi ..... oh wait .....

Buses and bikes are not much use for delivering goods either.

The london Emission Zone is responsible for introducing cleaner engines such as euro 6 if that had not been introduced then buses ,lorries and cars would still be using dirty smokey engines .As of 2015 all new cars must meet euro 6 standards so would be unlikely to attract any charges. It's not a scam it's a way to get manufacturers of vehicles to make cleaner engines and transport companies to use those cleaner engines
