Anton Yelchin RIP
Best known for playing Chechov in the current Star Trek reboot film series, he was also the voice of Clumsy Smurf and played Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation.
Yelchin was killed in a freak accident, at his home, by his own car.
He was just 27.

Re: Anton Yelchin RIP
Just posted in the Star Trek thread beforehand, was astonished when I caught it on the top of Reddit. A young talent that played a great Chekov IMO and I don't think I've disliked him in any role I've caught him in. He was on BBC the other night alongside Tennant in Fright night. 27 is no age and especially since he was now getting himself involved in constant big budget stuff.

Re: Anton Yelchin RIP
I wonder if the car rolled and he tried to stop it. I suppose we'll never know

Re: Anton Yelchin RIP
So tragic that he has lost his life so early.

Re: Anton Yelchin RIP
It's looking like he left it in neutral , with no handbrake on - on a hill, and it rolled into him.
It's the cars fault though, as it never said it wasn't in 'park'
Don't they use handbrakes in America?

Re: Anton Yelchin RIP
As far as I am aware, they do. It's possible either the handbrake slipped. Perhaps it was an older car,or he hadn't set the brake properly (which is something easily done), or at all.
I'm not saying it's his fault. I don't think it was, and accidents, while unfortunate, do happen.

Re: Anton Yelchin RIP
The 'new' Star Trek team are a great success imo. He brought a quirky, endearing quality to the role which perfectly modernised the character of Chekhov. It is no mean feat to follow in the footsteps of hugely popular predecessors and to make your mark in doing so.
A tragic loss of a gifted young man. R.I.P.

I've enjoyed the new Star Treks . The new cast are (IMO) just similar enough to the originals that they don't feel like new characters, but different enough that they don't feel like bad copies.
I also enjoyed the films. Yes, Star Trek was better than Into Darkness, and yes, both had plot points that had me groaning with how corny they were, but some of the original movies were better than others, and they also had plot points that were corny. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy them.
I'm sorry for Anton's friends and family. This kind of loss is never easy. I can only hope his death was quick,as I suspect it would have been very painful.

Most cars in the US have automatic transmission, and if you leave an automatic gearbox in "Park" you don't really need to use the handbrake as well, unless you're on a slope (although it is safe practice to do so at all times anyway, just so you don't forget to do it when you really need to).

Re: Anton Yelchin RIP
IIRC in San Francisco there is also a byelaw that says when you park that you have to have the steering on full lock to the kerbside. Because, as you say people do forget, and SF is very hilly!

Re: Anton Yelchin RIP
Crazy. That's a bad habit.
I saw this elsewhere, which was a nice gesture to Anton.

Re: Anton Yelchin RIP
Very sad news about this kid. He'd already been in a lot of good stuff and no doubt would've gone on to even greater things.
If there was something wrong with the car, as has been speculated about with this particular model, I hope the car company gets sued to oblivion.

Re: Anton Yelchin RIP
A tribute is being added for him to the end of the new Star Trek film which I think is fitting.
