TiVo Series Links and Suggestions

Recently my TiVo has gone mad with suggestions, recording 50 programmes every few days. Other than deleting everything, it hasn't really had any effect until today. I had a programme on series link, which didn't record today because it was recording suggestions on other channels. Surely the TiVo should prioritise what I've asked it to record over what it thinks that I want to watch!

Re: TiVo Series Links and Suggestions

TiVo won't prioritise suggestions over planned recordings. Have a look in Recording Hiccups to see why it didn't record your series episode.

It show's as "Cancelled - User Didn't Allow".

Re: TiVo Series Links and Suggestions

I would imagine that means when it popped up asking to change channel, someone pressed the no option. I am only guessing, because I did that once when I got into something else I was watching when the message came up so cancelled the recording.

Re: TiVo Series Links and Suggestions

True, that would have been me, but my query is why it was recording other stuff at the same time as something that it knew that I wanted to record, and that the default option is to cancel what I asked it for? Doesn't make any sense. I also wonder what would have happened if I wasn't present at that time?

As a matter of record, I caught up on the +1 channel.

It only cancels planned recordings if there aren't enough tuners for planned recordings and live TV. I suspect you got the message asking if it can retune the live channel.

It would have tuned away from the live channel and done the recording.

Turn off suggestions then.

Hmm. That's obviously what's happened, but I don't understand why it's giving me the choice to cancel something that I asked for in order to record something that I didn't! Thanks for your reply on this though, that's helpful.

Glad to hear it. Any idea why the suggestions seems to have gone so mad recently?

Probably the best suggestion there is!
How do I do that?

Other planned recordings (possibly just an overlap caused by the start or end padding) would have caused the clash, not suggestions. Suggestions will always get silently cancelled if it needs the tuner for a planned recording.

The settings have been deliberately changed. They are now back at full rate, after a long period of them being reduced.

OK, that isn't right, as there were 2 suggestions recording, and I was watching live TV. There were no other planned recordings.

Thanks for that, that does explain it. How do I turn them off? I couldn't stomach an extra 50 hours of TV every 4 days!
