Are Waitrose & John Lewis good to work for?
Whilst I don't shop at Waitrose because they don't yet deliver to my area; I do use John Lewis a lot and will be buying a new television from them shortly.
I have found the customer service to be good and have heard people say that they treat their staff well.
Reading the comments below from two other forum members, in a discussion about the current Christmas advert, is a little disconcerting if true.
The first comment has been included for balance.
Does anybody have any experience of working for them?

The company has a cult like mentality whereby , they say everyone is a partner, when in reality it is rubbish all decisions are made management in john Lewis HQ, nobody has a say in the company. The managers in the store treat the workers like ****. It is even worse in Waitrose.
The bonus payments are a sham, if you work full time for the partnership, the bonus covers payments, as the wages are so low and the majority f people use the bonus to pay off bills.
Black graduates applying for graduate management positions in Waitrose and John Lewis have never been appointed, as the company wants the premise that it is a white company.
I can go on about the scandoulous things at John Lewis HQ, but I'll leave that for another time.

We were taken through the staff areas and the canteen was in such poor decor and disrepair it was absolutely disgraceful. Wherever the money goes. It isn't on the the staff facilities. They also said that they didn't have finishing times as such and you were expected to work 10-15 minutes over or whatever to get a job finished. They then went on to see "but we give you xx discount in Waitrose and JL." The wages are so bloody poor, how can the staff there actually afford Waitrose and JL in the first place. I'm pretty sure simply being paid fairly for work done would be much more appreciated.

It seems to be different from store to store, my daughter works in Tamworth and loves it, I know someone who works in Solihull and they hate it.
I talked to staff in the new John Lewis at New Street and they all, 100% absolutely loved it. I think on balance it's a great company to work for

I have friends who work for Waitrose and have done so for years..they seem very happy in their work..one of them was a teacher who left because of stress and is very much happier working for Waitrose.

My Son used to work in the Waitrose in the USK area of Bridgend when he was in Uni in Cardiff and he said they were ok but very strict. He felt as if he was always walking on egg shells trying to not do anything wrong.

Perhaps you should consider a move to the John Lewis Partnership.
