Slow 50mb Broadband in Bolton

Hi

I was changed over to 50mb broadband 2 days ago and ever since its been really slow, using speedtest.net my download speed is about 2 mb/s and upload speed 3mb/s, when downloading in newsleecher its only giving me about 200k/sec. when I was on the 30mb broadband I never had a problem, it was always full speed..

I have tryed it on 3 pcs and all give the same result, all pcs are wired to my router by cat 6 ethernet cables.

is there anything I can do to increase the speed

Thanks for your help

Re: Slow 50mb Broadband in Bolton

What router are you using? Have you tried connecting directly to the superhub?

Re: Slow 50mb Broadband in Bolton

has the equipment been given a reset/reboot? worth giving your SH a hard reset then put it back into modem mode if that is how it is now.

Re: Slow 50mb Broadband in Bolton

tbh unless you are using ssl I have found newsgroups to be a poor measure of reliability for speed, especially VM's news groups. I haven't used them in a while but I can remember when they used to crawl along at 70k/sec. Can you post your power levels. Click on this link and look at the 5th post down. Presumably you are using a shub only and not your own router?

Re: Slow 50mb Broadband in Bolton

If you're using newsgroups, you should really be setting yourself up with some kind of automated solution - NZBdrone, Couchpotato, etc.

Download speeds are largely superfluous then, as the stuff tends to drop in the middle of the night.

Re: Slow 50mb Broadband in Bolton

Have you tried 150, broadband support? they will most likely 'send a few signals' reset their end. Also post up on the VM community forum if you haven't already.

Just as thenry said post on the community Forum and someone from virgin will get back to you in about 2-4 working days http://community.virginmedia.com
