hijacked google Chrome

This is seriously peeing me off, I've run every malware detector I can find, to no avail, I *think* it is related to a nasty case of home-net malware. I've managed to stop each of my browsers, ie,firefox, chrome from having the start shortcuts corrupted, and ie & firefox seemto be clear but google chrome now, on every instance of new tab brings up this url

https://uk.search.yahoo.com/?fr=hp-d...ssyctab_bd_com

I can't get rid of it, I've even removed yahoo from all search providors in settings, made google.co.uk to apear on 'new tab'

anyone have any ideas?

Re: hijacked google Chrome

Ah, good old search hijacks.

if you're sure you're clean of any nasties, make sure the shortcut used to launch Chrome is clean.

Right click the short cut and click Properties, make sure the Target field doesn't have anything after the Chrome.exe bit. It's a common tactic of search hijackers to insert the URL of the nasty there, although Yahoo isn't generally used in that way of course.

No idea why it would show under each new tab however, that's just weird. Make sure the default New Tab isn't changed in Chrome settings if you haven't already.

Re: hijacked google Chrome

This is odd, it's just on the new tab, or if you open up another copy of chrome after the first is running.

I don't know why none of the tools have picked up what's causing the redirect.

With this self same url each time: https://uk.search.yahoo.com/?fr=hp-d...ssyctab_bd_com

Ok well seeing as system restore didn't help either, I zapped google, reinstalled it, and re set everything up again, that seemed to do the trick.

I *think* it was a Kodi install that did it, but I'm surprised that Chrome itself doesn't have it's own anti hijacking measures.
