Upgrade from 100MB to 152MB
Hi. I have just ordered online an update from my current BB speed from 100MB to 152MB.
Currently I have a SH1 in MODEM mode. There was no indication on the order site that this needed replacing so I am right in thinking that the SH1 will run OK with the new 152MB tier? Can the SH2 run in MODEM mode?
If not, is it up to me to complain if it does'nt or will they know I have a SH1 and send me a SH2?
Few questions there...

The Superhub 1 is perfectly fine in Modem mode and will happily serve you 152mb.
It's only when the thing is in router mode that increasingly the thing runs into bother, especially with Wireless devices. As you have a more than capable router so you should be fine.
Yes, the Superhub 2 and 2ac can work in modem mode too, incidentally.

Re: Upgrade from 100MB to 152MB
just to elaborate a bit, both shub 1 and shub 2 and go up to 400mbits wired so as long as they are in modem mode and you are using your own router then you can continue as you have been quite happily. If for whatever reason you ever want to rely on the shub for your wireless then it will have to go in router mode and you will have to ring up for a shub2 because shub1 just can't hack it.

To be completely clear, the 400mbit is a theoretical number, one of those "When the earth and moon are in alignment, the wind is calm and all is at peace with the world" situations. Even the original Ambit 300 could theoretically do 200mbit but the reality is probably more half that (same goes for the SHUB).
In other words, I wouldn't push the SHUB1, 2 or 2ac beyond 200Mbit.

I disagree. I had on 120mbits and had no problem getting full speed. If they had a 152mbit profile for it I certainly would have given it a go to see what I could have got. The only reason why I let them give me a shub 2 was because I knew I would be pushing my luck with only 4 channels. 400mbits on the shubs might be a tad optimistic but 152mbits isn't even coming close to 40%.

Re: Upgrade from 100MB to 152MB
Will I need to reboot the SH to get the new config file? I have had an email telling me I will be upgraded tomorrow, 18th.
Just as an aside. I already have 8 downstream channels [QAM256] and 2 upstream [QAM64].
Will I get more D/S and U/S channels to accommodate the speed increase?

Re: Upgrade from 100MB to 152MB
your shub will automatically reboot. If it doesn't come down tomorrow don't panic. From what I have seen on this forum, anyone who has upgraded online always gets it about 2 days after they tell them they are going to get it. If you are super excited you can just ring up customer services and they'll push it through over the phone.
8 channels is the max and is more than enough atm. 2 has been the standard on the upstream for the last couple of years and again, is absolutely fine. You have seen a lot of chatter about increases to 3 or 4 upstream channels recently because VM are in the process of upgrading the network in advance of some beefy speed increases which are as yet to be announced.
Long story short: sit back and relax

That's just it, you might have been fine on 120mbit but you yourself admit hat much more than that is "pushing it". Plus I'm not sure if hammering 4 channels has a detrimental effect on the local node. More channels the better!
In any case, 152mbit on 8 channels is plenty fine but I'd say the 200mbit and above will be pushing it. 200Mbit maybe but certainly not 300.

Re: Upgrade from 100MB to 152MB
I would be perfectly happy with 200mbits but not 300 because then you are 75% again. I imagine VM will bang us up to 200mbits in the short term and while they are doing that rollout over the next tear or so, trial a 16 channel modem for 300mbits

Re: Upgrade from 100MB to 152MB
No upgrade yet. Do you reckon it could be done anytime, or should I give customer services a poke? If so, what would be the best time?
Cheers.

Re: Upgrade from 100MB to 152MB
I would give them a ring now if you want it today. If it was going to cone down automatically you would have expected it to be done in the early hours of this morning. They will see the code is already on your account and it is literally a 10 second job for them to push the new config through to you so dont take any bs excuses. You have already waited long enough. You'll know when it is done because your shub will automaticalky rebootso it can download the new config. If they say they have done it but "it can take up to 48 hours" they are lieing.

Re: Upgrade from 100MB to 152MB
Thanks for all your advice. I have just got off the phone and now have full speed!
The configure file hadn't dropped. He said it had but I checked on my SH before I called so I know it defo hadn't.
I had a bit of a hic-up to start with atsI could get full bandwidth when my PC was directly connected to the SH, but only 60M when connected via my Netgear Nighthawk.
Sussed it out. The QOS setting in the Netgear was set to 60M (must have been when I was setting QOS up when I got my router last week).
The 'tech' did say that we have 88% utilisation in our area and a TT has been open since October last year. I guess I might get some speed issues at certain times. not noticed any up to this point on 100M
So a tip to remember if anyone else is reading this thread and wondering why there BB speed hasn't increased after an upgrade check your QOS settings in your router!
Happy bunny.

Re: Upgrade from 100MB to 152MB
cool, glad you got it all sorted. You'll notice a big different between 100 and 152 down and 6 and 12 up. The nice thing is that your upstream has literally doubled.
