1080p
I have set my Tivo to 720p and 1080p(Pass-Thru only).
Could someone please very kindly explain to me what is meant by "Pass-Thru only" for 1080p?

However I don't think the words "1080P (Pass-Thru only") relates to HDMI.
Perhaps someone at Virgin may know what this means.

The highest that any of the tv channels can be set to is 1080i.
However, services which 'pass-thru' TiVo like Netflix use 1080p.
So 1080p is only used by 'pass-thru' services that stream

The hardware used in the VM TiVos can upscale lower resolution video to 720p or 1080i, but it can't upscale to 1080p. So the only way you can get 1080p out is if the source is also 1080p (hence "pass-thru"). At the moment, only Netflix provides a 1080p source.

Why can't it upscale to 1080p? It's not a hard thing to do these days especially when already upscaling to 1080i which is 1920 x 1080. Just curious. Regardless of that it doesn't really matter as the TV would upscale to 1080p anyway.

It's just the way the chipset was designed. Bear in mind the design is over 5 years old now.
