Virgin Media’s subscriber numbers have increased from 4,625,800 in the previous quarter, to 4,969,700 in the first quarter of this year (40,200 of which are still on ADSL rather than cable, incidentally). That’s an increase of almost 350,000, up 7 per cent

Subscriptions to TV services (TiVo, and Horizon in Ireland) grew by 115,000 during Q1 2015, reaching 2.8 million. The company also noted it gained 19,000 mobile contract subscribers, but due to a decline in PAYG users, incurred a net loss of 46,000 mobile subscribers.

What stood out for me on the UK front were:
- record low U.K. churn of 14.3%, compared to 15.4% in the comparative period
of 2014.
- 36,000 homes added during Q1, with the majority added in the last six weeks.
- Contrasting fortuness in customer acquisitions - 23,000 new RGUs in the UK and a loss of 9,000 RGUs in UPC Ireland. As Ireland is a far smaller country this is a more significant change in subscriber numbers.
- 67% of TV customers take Tivo or Horizon - 2.8m in total.

Internet Subscriber is a home, residential multiple dwelling unit or commercial unit that receives internet services over our networks, or that we service through a partner network. Our Internet Subscribers exclude 40,200 asymmetric digital subscriber line (“ADSL”) subscribers within the U.K. and 63,900 digital subscriber line (“DSL”) subscribers within Austria that are not serviced over our networks.

Re: Liberty Global results out May 7th.
Of those 4.9 million net subscribers, Virgin noted that 36 per cent were on 100Mbps or faster packages – a massive increase from the 12 per cent of customers at the same time last year.
Hmmm nothing like cooking the books

Re: Liberty Global results out May 7th.
Last years figures shouldn't be used as a comparison as they were from the previous year when the tiers were different.

Re: Liberty Global results out May 7th.
It's only an invalid comparison depending on what you're trying to compare. The comparison is more than fair, 100Mbit is a considerable milestone and to have 1/3 of customers on it is quite an achievement.

Re: Liberty Global results out May 7th.
I just meant that he's seeing 12% as an unbelievable jump when it's easily explained by the tier changes.

Re: Liberty Global results out May 7th.
Please please please......don't pee down the back of my leg and tell me its raining. Take the XL TV package and you have to take the 152mb BB package, if you downgrade your BB you pay more. That's why more customers are taking the faster speed BB.....it works out cheaper

Er no, more customers are on 100mbit or higher because this time last year the tiers were 30, 60 and 120. Now they're 50, 100 and 152. Simply put, those on XL have been upgraded. No cooking of the books what so ever.
