"It wasn't doing anything, it was just eating a bit of grass - it probably got sick of the grass it was eating elsewhere, it heard about a nice new patch, went down and started grazing, and the next thing is police turn up and start firing at it.
"We are going to light candles and say a little prayer for her."

He said there was a "massive police presence" with more than 15 police vehicles, a helicopter hovering overhead, and three or four officers in sniper gear.

Re: Vigil for shot cow
Typical jerk reaction by the police. Couldn't they just tell the farmer?

And then what was the farmer to do? Break out the ninja sheep dogs that can herd a cow?
Destroying escaped cows is a fairly common occurrence for firearms officers, for some reason this particular incident was deemed newsworthy.

Re: Vigil for shot cow
A scared cow on public ground is and always will be considered dangerous especially as they are 3/4 ton in weight

Leave a cow on the loose to the farmer? What could possibly go wrong?

A BULL went on the rampage through the streets of Lerwick on Tuesday night, with an elderly woman taken to hospital after being run into by the animal.
Shortly after 10pm, police told Shetland News that the bull was being "safely contained" in the Greenfield Place area of town and efforts were ongoing to trap it.
