Does ChannelID mean...anything?
Mostly just curiosity here. After a recent fault, my modem reconnected and I noticed that a couple of my downstreams had channel ID's way way high up:
113 and 114? Implies there's 100+ downstream channels, doesn't it?
Or is it more like VLANs where you can give them any ID you want and it doesn't matter?

Re: Does ChannelID mean...anything?
If they followed the frequency pattern, they would be 17 and 18 - maybe the numbers inbetween are reserved for TV or VOD

Re: Does ChannelID mean...anything?
Do they reserve channels for VoD like that? Would have thought it'd make more sense to load balance the whole network.

Nothing in between. They are all evenly spaced consecutive 8Mhz carriers. The only thing I can connect with the channel ID's is that 29.7 Mhz coincides with the end of the 10 metre band. Everything above this frequency wise is classed as VHF, everything below HF.

Re: Does ChannelID mean...anything?
Mine are not in order:
3 & 4 being higher frequency than 31 and 32.

Re: Does ChannelID mean...anything?
Typical closed cable system. That was my other theory. Channel allocation is set by the equipment at the local Headend, so each network area (or even segment) could have a different set of ID's for the same frequencies.
