I'm clearly impatient...

So having 50M as a backup for my 80M FTTC lasted about 3-4 Months. Then I had an accident involving the Live chat on the VM website.

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4235063993

Also 802.11ac rocks, that speeds great for wireless

Just hope they were correct when they told me changing speeds doesn't affect my contract end date.

Now I probably have to replace the power-line link between my SH2 and my main router (That speedtest was wireless direct to the SH2)

Edit:

Apparently I don't need to replace the power-line link

http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/4235077116 - That was on my main network with the PPPoE disabled (Forces the router to use VM instead of Plusnet)

Re: I'm clearly impatient...

So is the FTTC the backup now? How much are you paying for both connections (if you don't mind me asking)?

At some point it's going to be cheaper to buy a leased line.

have you got a dual wan router so you can load balance between the two connections?

Would be better with a dual WAN load balancing or auto-failover router - this probably means something from Draytek that won't be cheap!

Somewhere around £85 - £90 which is a Lot but less than I was paying for one broadband connection + Sky TV when I had it

Still a lot cheaper than a leased line.

Now if only I could get VRRP playing nice between EdgeOS and RouterOS, I think if I want to run VRRP i'll have to replace the Edgerouter Lite with another routerboard (It doesn't appear to do a Virtual-MAC)

Load-Balancing drops out of Accelerated mode and as such isn't really any faster on the downstream than VM on their Own.

Also I'm currently running an Edgerouter-Lite and have been playing with VRRP between it and a Routerboard, but Sadly it looks like EdgeOS can't use a virtual mac so I get ARP cache issues when failing over.

Although VRRP might be a bit overkill for a home connection

Give it a few more of Virgin's dodgy yearly price rises.
