Old Neighbours episode on Channel 5 from 1987

Im watching an episode of Neighbours from 1987 (when Kylie married Jason) but there is two big black bars on each side of the screen. its rather annoying - is this a fault?

regards
Pearl

Re: Old Neighbours episode on Channel 5 from 1987

In the early days of Neighbours it was filmed in standard definition on 4:3 format, if your TV is connected via HDMI there will be no way of removing the black bars that are there to fill the screen on a 16:9 wide screen TV. If the bars annoy so much you can watch via a scart lead connection and have the picture horribly stretched to fill the screen (everyone looks fat)!

Re: Old Neighbours episode on Channel 5 from 1987

All TV programs used to be filmed in 4:3 aspect ratio. Its more modern shows that are shot in 16:9 the widescreen ratio.

Remember TVs used to be that shape too. Watching old shows especially on a HD channel will mean they are shown in their original format to keep the program looking the way it was originally broadcast.

There was another episode shown after that one. The actual first episode from 1985!
