50 Meg Upgrade - Disappointing

Hi All

I've just had the 50Meg upgrade so old modem and a very old Netgear WGR614 replaced with Superhub.

Browsing's fine, Speedtest.net shows between 20 and 50 Down, with much more consistent 3 up, time of day doesn't seem to make a difference.

Streaming however is terrible. YouTube seems OK but anything else is rubbish. SkyGo and iPlayer are unusable. Even FaceTime is poor. Also I use LogMeIn Central to support clients from home and performance is noticeably degraded.

Pingtest.net shows appealing levels of Jitter anything from 4 to 28ms, again time of day seems to make no difference.

Is this a known issue with the superhub or my new package? (I believe the infrastructure is different), is there anything I can do? can I just go back to my old package before I send the old modem back?

Any advice or insight appreciated as ever.

Thanks, Mattley

Re: 50 Meg Upgrade - Disappointing

You have the new and IMO respected SH2ac.

It would seem that before your upgrade, you were on a legacy circuit that wasn't oversubscribed and when you went onto the SH2ac, you were put onto the "normal" set of frequencies that may be oversubscribed.

On the other hand, it may be some impairment on the circuit and we could quickly check that if you posted your modem upstream and downstream stats by copy/paste.

Re: 50 Meg Upgrade - Disappointing

Those stats are OK provided that the post-RS errors are not rising. They occur at modem reset when the modem isn't in synch but should not occur in normal operation. Those are dropped data.

Next move I recommend is to post in the SPEED section of the VM Forums, with the stats, and ask specifically if there is a utilisation issue in your area. They take a few days to respond.

Cheers

Re: 50 Meg Upgrade - Disappointing

Thank You very much for that, I've been using it quite a bit since the last reboot and the RS- numbers are the same so I'll head over there.

Thanks again.
