Church of England calls for 'fresh moral vision' in British politics.
"The Church of England has launched a strongly worded attack on Britain’s political culture, criticising all parties for offering only “sterile arguments” that are likely to make voters more apathetic and cynical in the runup to the general election.
In an unprecedented intervention, the church’s bishops have published a joint open letter warning that “our democracy is failing” and attacking the “growing appetite to exploit grievances” and “find scapegoats” in society. They called for “a fresh moral vision of the kind of country we want to be”.
It is the first time the bishops have intervened in this way ahead of a general election, but one said the church had felt the need to counter the “sex appeal” of people like Russell Brand, who have argued that people should disengage from Westminster politics.
The bishops insisted that the letter was not targeted at one party in particular, but the 52-page document can nonetheless be read as an indirect criticism of the government’s welfare reforms."

Debatable - however I am one but do not recognise the authority of the C of E. That said the message is not a bad one.

This thread has potential based on previous 2 posts.
The C of E are more than welcome to their opinion, of course, and have every right to publish it.

How hell is that debatable? They maybe a slightly different flavour of Christian but they are still Christian and worship the same God and read the same bible..

Re: Church of England calls for 'fresh moral vision' in British politics.
Quote:
Tory MP Gerald Howarth told The Sun: “They have come out with a lot of left-of-centre policies, they have criticised greed and the banks, but where were they when Gordon Brown was piling on the debt that our grandchildren are going to have to pay off?”
Nadine Dorries, Tory MP for Mid Bedfordshire, said there was a “very definite left-wing leaning” to the letter.
And she said the Church should stick to issues where people are “really seeking the Church’s voice”, such as gender abortion.
She blasted: “The Church is always silent when people are seeking its voice and yet seems to be very keen to dive in on political issues when actually no one is asking it to.”

Last paragraph above is cogent.

Considering their bishops get a free pass in to the house of lords (And therefore get to vote on legislation), more people really should, or they should give up those seats.

They were attacking him.
"Under the cover of Christmas, Bishops in the Church of England mounted an extraordinary assault on Brown, using separate interviews with The Sunday Telegraph to preach damnation of Labour's record. The Bishop of Manchester accused the party of being "beguiled by money" and "morally corrupt"
