AVG 2015 Free - Fix Performance - DON'T DO IT!

If you are using AVG AntiVirus 2015 Free and are contemplating trying the "Fix Performance" Tune-Up utility then DON'T!!!

My ASUS laptop has been rather sluggish for a while and I'd been putting off doing a full format/Windows 7 reinstall. I used Avast and it's been getting some stick lately for slowing down PCs so I uninstalled it and installed AVG 2015 Free as an alternative. All went well but no improvement in laptop sluggishness.

I spotted the "Fix Perfomance" button and thought I'd give it a go. What a mistake!!! After it had done it's work the laptop was BSOD'ing after every reboot with several error messages, worse still it had cleared out the "Restore Points" I set before the AV changes so I couldn't roll back to a previous good state!

However it's forced me to do what I should have done in the first place and I've reinstalled Windows 7 and and the laptop is running so much better now!

Very true, I've always resisted it in the past. But since I'd been intending to do a format & reinstall anyway I thought I'd give it a go and see what happened! Certainly glad everything was backed up beforehand!
