Witnesses claim 2,000 people killed in a Boko Haram assault that destroyed a town.
Worrying.
"Two thousand men, women and children may have died in Boko Haram’s latest blood-letting in Nigeria’s north-east.
Those, at least, are the claims.
But in the restive regions where the Islamists passage is barely opposed by government forces, few facts – as human rights groups told The Independent yesterday – are verifiable.
Even as President Goodluck Jonathan launched his campaign for re-election this week, evidence appeared to emerge indicating that his government’s attempt to prevent Boko Haram forming an Islamic “caliphate” in the northern regions is failing."
Indi.

Realistically it far too late to do anything in Nigeria or anywhere else where there is a "critical mass" of Muslims, eg UK.

It would have to be done with Nigerias permission.
But a multinational covert special operations mission to search and destroy would be my suggestion.

Report it perhaps, a handful murdered in France has been reported on in the most minute detail whereas thousands murdered in Nigeria barely warrant a byline.

Odious man
The Paris issue has taken precedence because it is an attack on a western city plugged into all the media etc etc. which is why they targeted it.
The Nigeria attack, is not yet confirmed, and if it was it would take days to get a decent tv crew in there.
You're pathetic.

How about we all calm down and ignore each other..it's a marvellous aspect of freedom that we are free to ignore other opinions. It certainly isn't helpful to get abusive and it is against our T&Cs.

According to BBC Africa they didn't attack the town until the 7th.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-30728158
Coincidentally the same day the Paris shootings kicked off.
If you were a news editor, which one would you plump for.
And yes, I'm a fantastic piece of work, one of a kind in fact.

Re: Witnesses claim 2,000 people killed in a Boko Haram assault that destroyed a town
The disagreements on the day the attack started rather prove the point about why it wasn't reported so extensively - how do you report something when the facts are so sparse and contradictory?
Then there's the issue of how you clear up the facts and remove the contradictions given the mess that country is in.
If Nigeria's president would be good enough to ask the international community for help as he clearly can't deal with the insurgency himself things may change. As it is he seems to be basking in his own name a little too much and trusting to good luck.
