Seems there is uncertainty in that story.

However, it has been mooted now for over a year. I would never say never, ultimately money talks.

However this interview suggests that Malone would resist a sale of Liberty.

Ultimately the shareholders, not John Malone, decide whether a sale goes through.

Seems unlikely right this second but if Liberty have a dip in their fortunes I'd fully expect Vodafone's extremely large wallet to open.

Not really. the board, of which Malone is Chairman can reject any offer if they don't feel the deal is in the interests of the shareholders, such as if the price is too low or for other reasons.

Enough shareholders sell to Vodafone or whomever else there is nothing the board can do about it.

The board is there to represent the company's owners. If the owners want to sell the board shouldn't oppose on their own grounds.

Obviously a hostile takeover isn't likely. Probably cost too much.

Interesting. I wonder what LibGlob is planning. They seem to be aiming for content and I think that's a good step. Wonder who and what else they're going to buy.

I'm not sure how I feel about Vodafone's interest. I suppose it could extend Liberty's reach into mobile really well, I can see a good combination between a strong fibre/cable network and a strong mobile network but I'm not sure there's enough overlap to make each interest's worthwhile. I have no idea what I'm talking about, though.

Personally, I think the long term plan of Malone is the same as what he did with his US cable company, ie build the company up to the point that it becomes very attractive to a buyer.

If Vodafone make a bid for LG, then a bunfight will ensue. I expect, at the very least, Comcast to get involved too.
