SuperHub & Homeplug conflict

Hi

I've recently returned to VM after a year with Sky Broadband. My problem is the homeplugs (Trednet 200mbps) which worked fine with Sky are now causing me a headache with the superhub (50mb).

I use the homeplug on the PS3 (on another floor) so I get a hard wired connection because its better than using WIFI. The problem is whenever I'm gaming online the rest of the network slows to a absolute crawl for other devices..its like it times out and you can't even connect to the net on other devices. The conflict occurs on the 2GHZ connection not 5GHZ. Devices that connect to 5GHZ work OK just those on 2GHZ which the PS3 uses.

I'm just wondering if anybody else has had a similar experience. I'm going to try the laptop with the homeplugs and see if the network slows down with it. Maybe the superhub just doesn't like the brand of homeplug. I could buy some Netgear ones so they're the same brand as the hub but want some idea of what's causing the conflict before I do.

Any tips or similar experiences?

Thanks.

Re: SuperHub & Homeplug conflict

I wouldn't bother buying new homeplugs as you have already established they are not the problem. Wireless on the shub is absolutely pants and you will be doing yourself a huge favour if you put the shub in modem mode and buy yourself a proper router like this

Re: SuperHub & Homeplug conflict

Assuming he's talking about the Superhub 2 (since the Superhub 1 can't do 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz at the same time) it's not really that pants.

You're the first I've actually heard of someone saying the Superhub 2 is pants.

Re: SuperHub & Homeplug conflict

The Homeplugs are attached to a specific port of the SH. If the PS3 then behaves OK, there's no association with any other part of the SH router section.

You've said that it's wireless that suffers -and 2.4GHz at that. I can't see a way that one wireless mode could be affected by an Ethernet only Homeplug. I even hesitate in suggesting you attach the PS3 directly to the SH and report what happens!

Re: SuperHub & Homeplug conflict

There's a contradiction in the story here - you say the 2Ghz falls over and the PS3 uses that. However you also say that the PS3 is connected via Homeplugs. It can't be both, unless I'm misunderstanding something about homeplugs, they're not running on a specific frequency or anything like that.

Is it possible that although you've plugged the PS3 into a homeplug, you're still connecting via wireless? It'd be worth double checking the PS3's network connection and ensure that it's ethernet.

Re: SuperHub & Homeplug conflict

ditto, I forgot about the wired part and I assumed that the ps3 was connecting wirelessly and locking up 2.4ghz for everything else.

Re: SuperHub & Homeplug conflict

Some powerline adapters also combined wireless access points, so I wonder if that is the case here?
