Microsoft is pulling the plug on Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10

Microsoft is ending support for Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10 next week on January 12th, releasing a final patch encouraging users to upgrade to one of the company's more recent browsers. The end of support means that these older versions of Internet Explorer will no longer receive security updates or technical support, making anyone who uses them much more vulnerable to hackers. A recently-announced patch will deliver the last few bug fixes, as well as an "End of Life" notification telling users to upgrade to IE 11 or Microsoft Edge — the company's successor to Internet Explorer, built for Windows 10.

First I've heard of this..

Re: Microsoft is pulling the plug on Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10
IE8 is tied to XP, which went out of support in April 2014, so is not surprising IE8 is also going out of support
IE9 is tied to Vista which goes out of support in April next year, but Vista's market share is pretty low
IE10 is an older version of IE for both Window 7 and Windows 8/8.1 - both those versions of Windows can update to IE11 which is still supported.

Surely though the ultimate is to get everyone onto Edge..which I dislike because I can't use adblock on it.

Edge is only available on Windows 10, so will require more than just a browser update for those still on Windows 7 or 8/8.1 for whatever reason (for instances business installs)
Also there is no easy upgrade path for customers on XP or Vista to Windows 10.

Re: Microsoft is pulling the plug on Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10
I upgraded to Firefox years ago.
I only use IE for one site now as it [currently] still needs ActiveX.

Re: Microsoft is pulling the plug on Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10
Oh I use Chrome BUT I'm not the only user on this PC..Himself can't use anything but IE and is complaining bitterly about Edge..but he is using it because my resident IT expert says we are NOT to download IE 11..
I was just giving a heads up to those who hadn't realised about the latest from MS.

Re: Microsoft is pulling the plug on Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10
If you have access to Edge, that the IE version on the PC will be IE11, as that's the only version of IE in Windows 10?
Or am I missing something?
