Gold membership for whole family ?

Hi all

How does the gold membership work in terms of for the family...

Does 'one purchase' cover the whole family. I.e. if I purchase as an adult can my young children use ???

Or (hopefully not) does each person need to buy....

Also have a free one month trial when I purchased Xbox360....how is this best set up based on ability to share ?

Many thanks for any advice and your time

Regards

Mike

Re: Gold membership for whole family ?

Microsoft used to do an Xbox Live Gold Family Pack, which offered a cheaper way of having up to four Gold accounts.

Microsoft discontinued it before the Xbox One was launched, as on the Xbox One only one Gold account is needed for all other accounts on the console to have the benefits of Gold.

... Unfortunately, the same does not apply to the Xbox 360 - each separate account must be a Gold account to have Gold privileges.

So, you need individual accounts

I would recommend buying an XBL Gold subscription code online, rather than directly through the console (where you'll be paying the full £40 for 12 months).

e.g. you can get a code for 12 + 1 months from Amazon for £29.99.

I renewed last month by buying a 12 + 1 month code from SimplyCDKeys for £28.99.

Amazon itself can obviously be trusted, and I have bought from SimplyCDKeys a couple of times without issue. Another option that may be cheaper is eBay, as there are many sellers on there who buy codes in bulk and then sell them cheaply... but with that you have the usual eBay risks.

Mainly want for films and music so can't I just set up an account for the pet gold fish and just use that one if any of the family want to watch a film ?

Yeah, if you're not bothered about online gaming.

How do you plan on using it for films and music? You don't need Gold to play your own media via USB or network streaming, and you don't need Gold to buy stuff from the Store or Marketplace. You do unfortunately need Gold for Netflix and other apps though (except iPlayer).

Thanks for reply........gaming not really an issue ! Children only 11/13 so not that into gaming !

Example is daughter wants to watch One Direction ' This is us' and I firstly wondered if it was available on XBOX live gold.....don't think it is ..found it on movies for £14.99 which seemed quite expensive....maybe that why they or someone is very rich ! ! !

Could I down load some how to PC stream to xbox ???? I say that but have no idea how it works

Thanks for any advice

Regards

Re: Gold membership for whole family ?

This is what you get with Gold:

http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/LIVE?xr=shellnav#features

Here's a more detailed list comparing Free and Gold:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_Li..._Live_Features

Films on Xbox Video can be quite pricey. You should be able to rent as well as buy. Gold isn't needed for them.

You can stream media from a PC to an Xbox 360 using Windows Media Player or a DLNA / UPnP Media Server such as PS3 Media Server or TVersity. You run the media server on your computer, sharing the folder with the media, and browse it using the Video/Music app on the console.

I use PS3 Media Server to stream videos to my 360 and PS3 (and iPad).

It's also possible to run a media server on a network HDD so you can stream without using a computer. TwonkyMedia Server, I think.
