Catch Up TV - Inconsistent Scheduling

It appears that VM do not provide the same quantity of programmes as that on the BBC iPlayer i.e. I came home early Monday to watch MOTD2 but it wasn't available on Catch up. My son got it on his laptop on the BBC iPlayer! This isn't the only time it has happened - my wife had the same problem trying to watch the Strictly Come Dancing results last Sunday - and ended up watching them on the laptop! Anyone have any ideas what these scheduling problems are?
