Zanussi Washing Machine-Faulty Circuit Board how long should they last.

We have now discovered the fault with our Zanussi Washing Machine, which is under 3 years old.The problem has been diagnosed as the circuit board which will need replacing. The cost for labour and parts is over £170. How long do you think a circuit board which is a major component should last for normal use. I have been in touch with Zanussi to complain but they are not interested, They Rudelythe told me I should learn a lesson and have taken out an extended warranty. Obviously they have no faith in their own products .If the fault had been the heatng element or pump maybe we would have accepted it, but the circuit board should last longer than 2 years 9 months!! Needless to say we will not be having the Zanussi washing machine repaired. Any views in the subject would be cappreciated to see if I am not alone in my digust!!!

You can't even go out and source a control board and swap it these days as they need to be programmed before use.

Under 3 years of age? Try claiming as unfit for purpose.

If a major fault develops even after the guarantee has expired, you may still be entitled to claim the washing machine wasn’t of merchantable quality and therefore claim a partial refund or damages for up to 6 years (Sale of Goods Act gives us 6 years to claim for faulty appliances) though you are highly likely to have to fight for this compensation and may need to go to the small claims court.

They won't do anything about it if it's out of warranty. I know it stinks when you pay all that money out and it doesn't last but it's the nature of the beast I'm afraid.

Re: Zanussi Washing Machine-Faulty Circuit Board how long should they last.

I always thought major components such as the inner and outer drums, the bearings, the drive motor and the control system should last the life of the machine.

We think the life of the machine should be 5 or 6 years but the manufacturer thinks the life of the machine is when one of the major components gives up the ghost and prices the repair so high the machine gets scrapped.

Even 15 years ago, when I retired from the trade, the writing was on the wall, as making money from washer repairs, if you were honest, was getting increasingly difficult because they were getting to be such a throw away item. Changing pumps, door seals or unblocking them were about the only worthwhile jobs left.

...in the late 1990s and early 2000s as Electrolux sold or gave away the regional service centres (Tricity Bendix, Electrolux, AEG, Zanussi), generally to the existing management or to area managers to run as independent businesses.

This service network was rebranded and became Service Force which still exists today but is, once again, all operated by independent service companies who repair and supply spare parts for all of the brands.

It's not a joined-up national service anymore.
