Can't Catch Up
Catch up TV not working. Rang 151 and was told Catch Up is a free service that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
I mean, is that it? I was looking forward to a couple of programmes I'd deliberately not watched because I could always Catch up. Worse still, when I try to access a Catch up programme it results in the TV equivalent of a BSOD and the only way out is to switch off and on again.
Not very twenty-first century is it? I could have got a VHS tape and not missed these programmes. Bah

Re: Can't Catch Up
No, it isn't it. It's certainly not part of process to say that, so whoever you spoke to isn't doing their job
They should either tell you of any known issue, or log it

Re: Can't Catch Up
Well, for it to be logged I was told it would need to be a recurring issue so it looks as if I'm doomed to calling 151 a few more times as it still isn't working.
It's just plain wrong for a customer to come off the phone feeling that the issue is their tough luck whether or not this is a free service. A service of any kind ought to work imo.
I know technical issues are a part of a sophisticated service but it isn't unreasonable to expect a reported issue to be rectified or a plausible explanation provided for a temporarily reduced service. Effectively, what I got was "You don't pay anything for Catch up but if you're lucky it will work sometimes".
I just hope next time David Tennant uses the TARDIS a little notice pops up saying "sorry, this service is not available" .

Re: Can't Catch Up
As Ben stated, whoever told you that is flat out wrong. Catch-up actually isn't free, different levels of on-demand are provided depending on what TV package you're on. So while there might not be a dedicated "Catch up" charge, it's certainly part of your bill.
I would be inclined to ring up and put in a complaint against that agent.

Re: Can't Catch Up
ya, and when you do it if they offer you some sort of discount why don't you ask them for a free V+/Tivo box (whatever it is these days) so you can digitally record and series link all your tv and watch it whenever you want. I did it with Sky a couple of years ago and it is one of the best upgrades for anything I have ever done. The different between digital tv picture quality and sound and vhs is unbelievable. When you watch it back off Sky+ is it like you are watching it off the tv to start off with (i.e. excellent quality)

Re: Can't Catch Up
tbh, I don't watch any tv at all. All the tv series I watch are American (currently Homeland, Walking Dead, The Mentalist, Agents of Shield, The Originals, The Vampire Diaries, Big Bang Theory, Grey's Anatomy, The Tomorrow People and Legend of Korra (Game of Thrones, True Blood, Defiance, Falling Skies and Under the Dome when they come back)) so rather than waiting for them to come on tv over here which does my nut in I download them every and then I can watch them at my convenience on my projector. The only thing I watch on tv is Judge Judy which I have got series linked

Re: Can't Catch Up
Can you be a bit more specific about exactly what happens and when? Do you get an error message or 4-digit error code? And which box model do you have?

Re: Can't Catch Up
First off, apologies to Stephen for my posting in the wrong place.
The good news is my catch up is up and running again!
I'm inclined not to complain formally as in fairness VM service is usually pretty good for me. Sometimes you just gots to forgive the odd blip. 'Course, if the service goes down again I will go berserk immediately
Thanks all for your comments and offers of help.
This is still the best forum on the web. ( note for readers: a little bit of sucking up goes a long way )

Re: Can't Catch Up
It wouldn't be VM you're complaining against, but rather the agent who told you fibs. Still, it's a lot of hassle and perhaps not worth the trouble - glad it's working for you now!

Re: Can't Catch Up
Well, a nice lady from VM rang me today just to make sure I had all my services back. I was delighted to tell her things were fine.
Unfortunately, there was no wood within touching distance.
This evening I was treated to 3 error messages on my two VM enhanced TV's:
1. "Off air antenna service disabled"
2. "Smart Card isn't inserted correctly" and
3. "Catch up is not available. Try again later".
Rang 151 and to be fair a nice bloke fixed things. He asked if my other services were working ok and I said they were all fine.
Unfortunately, there was no wood within touching distance.
Tried my email and my password is being rejected at logon. It was fine earlier today.
In ye olden days when my old TV aerial was hanging off the side of my house, there was rarely problems with TV reception. It seems the more complicated things get, the more prone it is to problems. Those old telly days weren't so bad after all.
I've had to miss Lady Gaga on X Factor and I was looking forward to the awfulness.
Oh well, I suppose I should be grateful that my internet is still worki ..........
