Re: virgin media security

As someone who had to do tech support for Virgin Media Security, I can honestly say that it is absolutely terrible and wouldn't recommend it at all. The Microsoft Security Essentials package is a good, free and basic Anti-virus package though. Others will have preferences for other free ones as well, but VMS is just terrible.

Re: virgin media security

yup, another marketing gimick to make it look like they are giving their customers free stuff. I can remember when it first came out, the number of problems and conflicts it caused was unbelievable. Don't use it. I have been using Microsoft's for years and it works brilliantly.

Re: virgin media security

They arent using their own at the moment (which has already been mentioned above) they are giving away F-Secure, which from past experience, is actually quite good

Re: virgin media security

So VMS has actually been retired in favour of giving away a standalone product? I did not know this.

Re: virgin media security

From what I recall, the internal engine changed once or twice. At one point I believe it was BitDefender.

Re: virgin media security

I do believe at one point a couple of years ago that F-Secure was rated (in a proper technical review) the No 1 anti virus software. I used to have the paper as a pdf somewhere.

Re: virgin media security

VM security, bundled together by Radial Point over the last 4 or 5 years had used the following as part of their AV package, obviously not at the same time.

Kaspersky
Bitdefender
Trend Micro, this one being the last iteration.

All the above in their own right were decent Anti Virus solutions, but sadly were not packaged in an efficient way.

I think moving away from a supported solution, and giving customers the chance to pick what appears to be a popular security program is a positive move.
