Suggestion for HD (Poll)
Hi all,
Just had a thought, since Freeview does something similar;
Wouldn't it have been logical if HD channels was a 4 digit number keeping the original 3 digits intact. ('1'+'[channel number]');
e.g. BBC One HD would be 1101
MTV HD would be 1134
Film 4 HD would be 1429
and so on...
Alternatively, 0 could be used in replacement of 1 so 0101 etc.
This would also mean:
- Freeing up space in the EPG for other channels
- Allowing easy transition of everything to HD when equipment allows (just swap them around)
Let me know what you think :-)

There's a problem with this idea. Think about what happens when you press 1-1-0 on the remote.

Re: Suggestion for HD (Poll)
I'm happy with the current setup, only improvement would be to group the main channel, the +1 and the HD channel together, rather than one of them being miles away from the others

Re: Suggestion for HD (Poll)
Pretty sure the new boxes would be capable of doing this. But what about the legacy V+ HD boxes, of which there are still thousands in circulation?

That is not the same.
Because I use Tivo as a PVR and record everything, and don't watch live TV (except BBC News channel) I really don't care what numbers the channels are and how they are ordered.
'Don't care' is a valid option/opinion.

As Maggy has said, if you feel like your contribution is of no worthy input, abstain from taking part.
This is just a poll to see how it fares with users as it was an idea; however feedback such as this helps to see which ideas would work well and what ideas do not.
This is a task that I am often involved with, being a tester for a certain corporation.
As for channel numbering, this would relieve the overcrowding of certain channel categories that are currently filling up, paving way for new channels in the future.
This has been put into practice with a friend's Samsung TV in which has built in Freeview HD. BBC One SD is on "1" and BBC One HD is on "101".

I voted no. Just my view but really do not see it being of any real benefit.

I too can't see the 4 digit solution being of any help, until we get to 999 channels!

A remap option would be much more simple, it works on sky.

Re: Suggestion for HD (Poll)
I don't think the advantages out way the disadvantage of having to hit four keys instead of three to select a channel.

Re: Suggestion for HD (Poll)
If you watch the HD channels regularly you tend to remember the numbers anyway. Plus you can press blue on the mini guide and choose the HD category
