Re: Can we get out of our contracts from thurs
Did Virgin send out letters or e-mails to Virgin customers letting them know that ESPN would be removed from XL? If so, cancelling might be tricky.
http://store.virginmedia.com/the-leg...es.html#ending
"J3b. If we and/or Virgin Media Payments make significant changes to the services so the services you are entitled to receive in return for the charges you pay are significantly altered or reduced you may cancel those services affected without penalty by giving us and/or Virgin Media Payments (as applicable) at least 30 days' notice. Such notice must be given within 30 days of the increase in charges or changes to the services or this agreement being notified to you."
ESPN being removed from XL should allow you to cancel your TV contract. If however Virgin did send letters and e-mails out notifying that ESPN would be removed from XL, and this happened more than 30 days ago, you'll be stuck with no right to cancel.

I have not had 30 notice and I received another call off sky this evening offering me 12 months half price free Internet and extra box plus free multiroom and a credit of £12 per month for the first twelve months to cover bt sports.the sales person who rung me said I should be able to break my contract thurs when we lose espn, one of my workmates was told similar from the stall in town today.
I ain't really bothered about bt sports but still waiting for sky Atlantic and after receiving the email back from universal hd is the final straw for me

I cannot see it as a contract breaker since ESPN was added to XL Free. In my opinion, the channel closing is beyond Virgin's control
However, I will say I have had two letters from them regarding this.

However, grating it may be to loose this channel no court would see this as a breach of contract by VM. Withdrawl of this channel is not under VM' direct control as it was put out under open tender. The clause mentioned in Chad's post is a provision to withdraw from the contract against the withdrawl of services not the loss of content on those services.

Got this message on Facebook this morning---------
You can leave your contract any time Howard, but if you still have time left then there will be an early disconnection fee. Sadly some channels do close, such as ESPN, but we work hard to ensure that new channels are added to your package. Recently we've had BET (channel 184), MTV HD (183), MTV Music (310) and Nick HD (714) added to our packages. As soon as we have any news on BT Sport, you'll know. Melissa.

Seriously they are deluded if they think this recent bunch of channels are a suitable replacement for espn channel,I suspect these recent crop/crap sd channels were being acquired just to say hay we have new channels what a insult

Why do you think they are deluded, any channels they add have to be paid for and they have added an awful lot this year. Regarding BT sports the value of the customers they lose will probably be less than the cost of the channel.

Howard you are just wrong. BT had no intention of starting talks with VM that long ago.
As is mentioned many times on here the quality of channels is a purely personal opinion.. tosh is your opinion it is not everyone's.
What they are doing with the money remains to be seen. I hope it is getting other channels and/or getting the best deal they can for BT sport for those who want it. I could say BT sport is tosh... for me a lot of their sport is, but people want it and I hope VM get a good deal for it.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying bud and I ain't to bothered about bt sports my self and yes you are probably right about talks not starting that long ago but they should/could have had a back up sky Atlantic? Even universal hd? But they haven't they have sat with there head in the sand again like they have in the past expecting bt to throw there channels at them which they havenot.they put there'selves in this position the day they sold all there channels leaving there selves with no bargaining chips, quick question if sky was to pull there channels from xl pack tomorrow would you still expect to pay the same price..I think not bud

Re: Can we get out of our contracts from thurs
The Sky channels are varied and numerous so yes it would be a major problem. ESPN is one channel with HD variant, Classic and America. It is not the same thing as sport is one type of channel Sky is many types.

Re: Can we get out of our contracts from thurs
It doesn't matter if the channel closing is out of VMs control, our contract is with VM and if you're a sports fan you're going to be feeling pretty naked after getting stripped of these channels and could easily interpret this as falling under the cancellation clause above.
