Difference between a Virgin Media Field Engineer and Field Technician
Hello all,
Apologies in advance if this is the wrong area for this thread..
I've been looking at the VM careers page as I have an assessment day fast approaching, so I have been reading up on the role of Field Technician and on their site they have the following:
"Our Field Engineers are the ones who get out into people’s homes to install and repair our TiVo boxes and broadband. So you’ll need to know your stuff, solve problems quickly and be good with people.
Field Technicians use their technical knowledge to specialise in either service or installations - learning how to repair and install basic network elements too. You’ll be out in the real world, driving one of our vans, so a full driving licence (and no more than six points) will definitely be an essential."
Don't Field Technician's go into peoples homes, if not what is it they do exactly?
Apologies if I come across as dumb but I only ask because as part of the assessment day I have to prepare a 3 minute presentation on why I'd like to work for VM, that includes: what interests me about the Field Tech role, what I think will be the most positive & also the most challenging aspects of the role & Why I think I would be suited for the role.
I don't want to prepare a presentation that isn't targeted correctly as this opportunity is massive for me, so if there's anyone out there that can shed any light on it for me I'd be extremely grateful.
Thanks in advance
Jon

I *think* that the field technicians are more to do with the maintenance of the actual network itself rather than the cable and equipment at the end user.
I might be wrong, hopefully someone with more knowledge will be able to clarify.
Good luck with your assessment.

Re: Difference between a Virgin Media Field Engineer and Field Technician
Thanks for the reply Derek, I've since spoken to VM Recruitment about it and asked them to clarify, they say that Field Engineers, and Field Technicians basically do the same job, they both go to customers houses and install/repair VM equipment, so I'm assuming that they "may" refer to Senior Technicians as Field Engineers, I could be wrong, and hopefully I'll find out first hand.
I should have posted my findings earlier but I've been getting stuck in to the prep work needed.
Regards
Jon

field technicians fix faults and do installs, engineers maintain the network and rarely go into houses.
