Sky FTTC slowdown problems. Not just VM it seems

Interesting article on how some Sky FTTC customers are having problems with the performance of their service:

http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/sky...y-network.html

With user comments like:
Quote:
If it's that few affected, why not get us all to test your possible fix?

This is just another ploy to try and keep us quiet for a few weeks to buy sky some more time.

Roll on payday when I can stump up the cash to get a new ISP, and phone provider, and maybe even TV channel provider while I'm about it.
Quote:
Absolutely no change for me. Still touching 22 Mb at best. Really disappointed, I've had it installed a year and still no fix. Come on Sky!
Quote:
Not that it will help but thought I'd air my frustration with this unacceptably poor service. 8am-8pm I get full speed of about 38MB downstream, yet as soon as the clock strikes 8pm everything is slower than a 56k modem. Can't watch anything on Sky Demand, or any of the usual culprits like BBC iPlayer.

Sky can't fix the problem of being oversubscribed without spending thousands to get their network upgraded to handle the throughput. All this news of a fix this week is a lie, it's just buying them time.
makes you double check this is not the VM support forum they are posting on

Does Sky have a cooling off period (like VM's) so you can bale if you get a poor speed/service?

Re: Sky FTTC slowdown problems. Not just VM it seems

having had a quick read dude the issue isnt as big as you make out. It isn't due to a lack of investment in infrastructure nor an issue which is going to affect everyone for ages and cost a bomb to fix. It is an issue with the firmware on the hardware they are using and they are working on a fix. I can't see it being as bad as the shub fiasco and I am sure that once they have got it up and running everyone's speed issues will evaporate.

You may be right but every ISP has problems as this illustrates, just providing some balance ...

i agree but although I feel sorry for the customers while this gets sorted out and it obviously is a problem, at least they know what the problem is and are working to fix it rather than turning a blind eye and coming out with PR blab that makes horse poo sound like Lindt chocolate

Sky's cooling off period was a massive 3 months on the broadband, not sure if that still stands.

Re: Sky FTTC slowdown problems. Not just VM it seems

the sky issue at the moment is they have a firmware bug that affects speeds, thats not a congestion problem.

I wouldnt put sky even close to VMs scale of problems.

Login to the official VM forums, then login to BT care, then login to sky. VMs forums are in a league of their own with the level of performance complaints.

Every ISP has problems. It's how they deal with it that sets them apart.

Is this a firmware issue on their new router/hub or on their actual network hardware?

Didn't have any issues with speed before I moved house recently and new install is on Tuesday. Sky have sent another hub as part of the house move/re-install even though I told them I had one already. Its free so not complaining but if the firmware bug is in the hub, I could use the old one.

Chrys, you can't even compare VM's fibre problems to other providers as the scale is so different

Its on skys network hardware, they are already beta testing a fix which so far is successful.
