On the back what we had in meat scare this scary story. Couple who been long term veggy became ill all sudden. No level doctors could find a solution. Diet was perfect yet he was becoming more ill and his partner. She suggested it was diet they eat bit meat and like light bulb they become more better until he not ill anymore.

I agree what he said the atitude all shoes fit one size advice infact not good advice. We all different, we got different tollerances metabilisms and whats good for one is bad for another.

Should we have better guidelines and use our bodies listen to it telling us we need to change. Whether that means reduce meat to more veg or reduce veg eat more meat.

Our bodies change every 7 years throughout our lives. So what was good 7 years back might now be bad.

The problem with some vegetarians is that they remove the main source of protein from their diet and don't replace it with non-meat versions. We all need a balanced diet but some veggies and especially vegans don't realise that they need to compensate with other products (i.e..beans for example)

agreed that is true soya usually protein that veggies use. Ready the story they had apparantly done this in there diet. I was thinking they eaten something with pesteside or acidently ate something poisionious. Toxicolgy was fine. So metabilsm was not functioning because denial of meat protein that substitutes was not working.

What is strange they had been doing the same for years felt absolutely fine. Now all of sudden theyre body rejected there way life. So either food has changed, was bad or lifecycle decided no more give me meat. Could we be seeing that food we eat is not the same once was. We know scientist meddling with nature is that meddling good or bad.

Like article there is others out there so wonder if there is study on long term use of diets can cause. Either long term meat diet or vegetarian or vegan.

I read on forums some actually become easily dehydrated.

It is a fact that age makes our bodies less efficient at certain processes. We can't metabolise calcium from our diet for example as efficiently as when we were younger..Maybe their bodies weren't coping so well with a vegetarian diet because they weren't getting some essentials so easily from the food they were eating.

Re: how safe is being a vegetarian long term for some it can cause health issues

Soya protein is one the worse things to set my Crohn's off. Even the smallest amount will cause a lot whole lot of pain for day, two or three afterwards. Also yeast extract will do the same. On top of that I have to avoid salad stuff and can't eat a lot of certain veg.

Though I find vegetarian food when done well with a bit of imagination can be a lot better tasting that a primarily meat dish. So even if I wanted to be a vegetarian I don't think my body would be able to withstand it.

My ex was a vegetarian for quite some time, I do remember she was tired a lot of the time, and had to have certain vit supplements. I found out that I was intolerant to soya protein because at the time we ate a lot of those Beanfeast meals packs eg spagbol mixes.

I am lucky that Humera keeps the crohns at bay but hard to digest foods ie anything not chewed enough or "al dente" whether its meat or veg affects my bowel movements.
but we do eat an awful lot of quorn in our meals and not a lot of meat.
