Question about adding a new router.
I have ordered a new Asus Router from Amazon. It is due to be delivered tomorrow. I am not clear as to whether I use the existing hard wired connections on the Superhub for my wired connections (iMac, Windows 8 laptop and Devolo Homeplug) or do I transfer them to the ethernet connections on the Asus Router or can I use all four if required.
Any other advice or comments regarding placing the Superhub in "modem mode" and adding a wireless router also welcome

Re: Question about adding a new router.
once you put the Superhub into modem mode, only one of it's four network ports will be usable. Connect the WAN port of your router to the superhub LAN port, then everything else to your router.

Re: Question about adding a new router.
You can leave the SH in router mode if you want and attach the ASUS in bridge mode. This will give you 8 wired ports. Of course you'd turn wireless off on the SH - the source of all troubles with that device.
That's merely adding to Rob's answer.
The BEST thing to do is to put the SH into modem mode and if you need extra wired ports, add a small switcxh to one of the router ports. It's certainly what I've done, Trouble free and Asus wireless is excellent.

Re: Question about adding a new router.
I'll jump in here, before Mon General arrives with the Linksys army, and second the Asus. Works great for me!
Did read however, on Slashdot, that Cisco are dropping Linksys to save money ...... ??

Re: Question about adding a new router.
Just before I signed up with Virgin Cable Broadband a few months back, I got myself the TP-Link TL-WDR-4300 dual band router.
I experimented with a few different ways of connecting it to the SH, including putting it in modem mode but in the end I found, at least with the TP-Link router, that I didn't have to do much at all.... just turn off the wireless facility in the SH and connect a LAN cable to the WAN port on the router.... works a treat
The WDR-4300 even changed it's default gateway IP address so it didn't conflict with the SH and it means I have the usual LAN ports on the SH available to connect to my Sky Box and I have to say that I've been very impressed with the TP-Link's wireless capabilities and overall performance and given it's very reasonable price, considering it's a DUAL band bit of kit, I'd highly recommend it.

Re: Question about adding a new router.
Double NAT is not a good idea even if it's easy and it works.

Re: Question about adding a new router.
Gotta back Qasi on that. Since you're usin the combo as if iwere modem mode, it's best to put it into modem mode. That way you'll avoid all the other fubars that go into the router side formware of the SH.

Thanks for the info, but while it's working (very well), I think I'll leave things as they are
In my particular case, the SH is in one room, near my Sky box and the rest of my computer gear is in another room (three desktops/nas/Laptop etc.).
If I put the SH into modem mode then only one Lan port is available. Running my set up the way it is, then I can use the available Lan ports from the SH for things like my Sky Box and Blu-Ray player and the rest of my stuff, both wired and wireless are taken care of by the TP-Link wireless router.
So far, I've not found any problems or issue with the setup the way it is but I'll keep in mind what you've both said about multiple NAT's... thanks again.

Re: Question about adding a new router.
Yep - that's fair enough and an advantage if you don't need to worry about double-NATting.
Also, if I were you, I'd turn off the firewall functions in the SH if you've got no attached devices relying on it.

Should there be an issue you could connect the SH to a LAN port instead of the WAN port on the TP-Link router. Disable the TP-Link DHCP server and move the management IP address to outside the range of the SH DHCP scope and then you'll be using the TP-Link router as a switch (3 ports free) and wireless access point...

Re: Question about adding a new router.
Many thanks for the replies and very useful info... I'll certainly keep it in mind if problems do start to crop up and it looks like it's a double NAT issue.
I think if the SH had not powered off all the other LAN ports when switching to modem only mode, I'd have most likely stuck with that but given the location of my SH and the other gear (in other rooms), it would have meant running a number of different cables through walls just to get a LAN connection to the likes of my Sky box, which is sitting no more than a matter of inches from the SH!
My first hookup when I got VM cable broadband was to follow the good advice from this forum and switched it to modem mode and although again, things worked fine connecting to the TP-Link switch, I then had the problem of the LAN ports on the SH being switched off and getting my Sky box a connection so really, I guess I ended up with a happy accident being able to run the SH and the TP-Link router in a double NAT situation.
My guess is that I'd most likely start to run into problems if I wanted to do port forwarding or something like Skype?.... but at the moment at least, I don't need that sort of functionality and again I have to say that for me, the TP-Link router works great alongside the SH
Cheers!
