Super Hub settings and GREY WiFi icon on Nexus 7

I had a super hub installed a couple of weeks ago and after a day or so i ventured into the settings and noticed the engineer had set the firewall as OFF.

I did not like the look of this (as an android tablet does not have its own firewall). So, I set the firewall as HIGH and this seems to cause no problems with my laptop, however I notice the WiFi icon on the tablet is now GREY, The nexus 7 does have a fast internet connection, however it seems to be restricted in use, for eg google services like voice search no longer work and apps don't receive notifications. The same GREY icon shows with Firewall on MEDIUM, but it turns BLUE if I select FIREWALL LOW and then all functions work fine.

(1) What is causing the loss of full connection with the Super Hub firewall
(2) What is the difference in effect between LOW,MEDIUM and HIGH settings

thanks

Are you worried about Malware on your mobile or PC?

AVG for Android is free - I use it on my S3, Nexus7, and other Android tablets...

Re: Super Hub settings and GREY WiFi icon on Nexus 7

I do use avast mobile on my nexus 7 tablet, but I would still like to know what the recommended super hub settings should be.. surely not FIREWALL OFF as the engineer left it..

I have searched on Google for an answer to this GREY question and it seems to be a common issue with the latest Google tablets. But nobody ever seems able to resolve it

Any other suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks

It's next to useless to be honest, router will block all any and incoming connections that aren't probably tagged with a destination anyhow.

GauBan's post on this link (6 posts down) seems to give some ideas, mine is set to low which was the default.

Many thanks for this link... Even though there is no mention of greyed out WiFi icon on there it does highlight the same connection problems people are having with fire wall settings

While the link does not explicitly mention the Nexus 7 but it does at least answer your 2nd question about what Low, Medium and High does and I recommend setting it to low which is the default and causes fewer issues.
