Still on half the download speed
Still only getting 27mb instead of 60mb from my Superhub ethernet connection. I have disabled the Superhub firewall (no diff). Fast Family ethernet PCI card in situ.
Are there any tricks or software out there which might help.
My problem may be me old computer Dell Dimension 3100 with Pentium 4 32 bit processor and 2 gig of ram - running Windows 7.
Is it possible to borrow my mates modern 64 bit i3 PC and do a speedtest.net test on my connection (he uses a Superhub as well).
I may well invest in a Mac Mini anyway.
cheers
Richard

Re: Still on half the download speed
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the Ethernet adapter in the PC? I can't find the post at the moment, but someone over on the Community Forum found this fixed their slow download issue.
Something to try / tick off the list

Re: Still on half the download speed
try this...
run this program > http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe
once the programs open..
1. bottom of the page above 'apply changes' check/select "optimal"
2. up top slide the slider bar to 100+
3. under 'network adapter selection' check/select "modify all network adapters"
4. then apply changes
restart computer
open IE and test > www.speedtest.net

Re: Still on half the download speed
How are you testing your download speed?
Try JDAST from http://www.gmwsoftware.co.uk/ to test.
Also (and perhaps you've checked this previously) it's worth confirming that your SH is correctly provisioned for 60Mb?

you should still be able to download at 8mb/sec dude. Have you checked the shub to see what speed you are actually provisioned for?

I know you think that getting units correct is completely unnecessary, but 8mb/s really?
I'd be hoping nearer 8MB/s if I was the OP...

Re: Still on half the download speed
Not this again.
Nobody except you seems to be getting repeatedly confused by the idea of "mb".

So it's wrong in a 'technical' forum to expect technical details to be correct?
In this case however there's an example of how being lazy and not pressing the SHIFT key has made the post completely nonsensical. GM has attempted to show off to (and confuse) the OP by changing from the commonly quoted 'megabits per second' to 'megabytes per second' and (ignoring the fact that 'm' isn't 'mega') hasn't changed from 'b' to 'B'.
The OP has posted he's only getting '27mb/s' instead of '60mb/s' and GM posts that he should be able to get '8mb/s' - How can this possibly be helpful?

Re: Still on half the download speed
Made perfect sense to me... And I suffer from over-literalness problems.
The OP was talking in "mb" and GM responded in other "mb"'s. Neither is technically correct but I don't see anyone else complaining. Also "gig" is not accurate terminology and neither is "speedtest.net test"
Also Superhubs don't get provisioned at 60Mb, it's 66Mb or something in that region. Which makes you technically wrong as well.

Oh come on, 'other mb' - really?
I can't believe that you're digging deeper defending this schoolboy error when it takes so litte effort to get it right in the first place!
By the way, for the record, I was quoting the OP when referring to 60mb/s, without comment, so don't accuse me of being 'technically wrong' (in this case at least )

Re: Still on half the download speed
Right, and GM was quoting the OP referring to "mb" as well.
If you're gonna whine, people will whine back at you.

Re: Still on half the download speed
ffs, I am glad you havent got anything better to do than pick apart my posts. I didn't realise I was trying to be "clever" by letting the op no that he should be able to achieve his download speed having posted his specs. The reason why I never bother with mb and MB is because it will confuse most of the novices that come to the forum for support. Although it hasnt happened in this case, most peeps will say 60mbits so when I say 6mb/sec they can infer I am talking about megabytes and not bits.
