Samsung Blu-Ray player won't connect?
Hi folks, I wonder if any you can save me from repeatedly banging my head against a brick wall. I'm trying to set up a Samsung Blu-Ray player (BD-E6100) and have spent the last two hours trying to connect to my Superhub wirelessly but with no joy. It does pick it up but none of the passwords on the back of the hub work. I tried entering the SSID manually but I don't think there's a passphrase for any the options given after that.
Reading the manual, it says that static IP addresses won't work with the machine automatically. I thought I got all the various info needed (subnet, DNS,etc.) through different sites on google (I have Linux Mint installed so there's no simple way of obtaining all this info) and that didn't work neither.
What am I doing wrong here? Has anyone else connected Samsung devices to the Superhub previously? Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Samsung Blu-Ray player won't connect?
the devices (laptops, mobile phones etc) which connect to the shub or any other router wirelessly obtain their info by dhcp (dynamic host configuration protocol). This is a way for routers to dynamically assign lots of network stuff to devices automatically without you having to configure them on each device manually.
The username and password on the back of the shub are the credentials you enter on the shub login page (http:192.168.0.1) to authenticate yourself and access the GUI. From there you can setup your wireless network and configure the SSID and more importantly your password. You can then tell your blu ray player to scan for wireless networks, picks your up, enter your password and all the info it needs for ip, default gateway etc etc should be sent automatically.
If you have any problems with your wireless keep dropping out (which I am sure you will) use a wired connection. You can get a 20m cat5e cable for a few £ and tack it round the wall.

We have no issues with 3 tablets, Panasonic BluRay player, a Tosh Laptop, a Lenovo laptop, an Xbox360, a Wii, and a couple of smartphones attaching to the SH without drop-outs, so your statement may be true in your circumstance, but not as the blanket condemnation as you have made. Some people have had problems, some haven't - sweeping statements aren't helpful.
You couldn't be any more negative if you spent all day gaining electrons....

Re: Samsung Blu-Ray player won't connect?
Good for you but as the majority of threads about the shub are to do with wireless performance i thought i would cover every eventually in order to get it up and running asap rather than wasting time sending posts back and forth

I thought your post was very helpful, except for that all-encompassing statement, actually.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, wired is not an option here because the superhub is upstairs and the Blu-Ray is downstairs. Also, can't remember if I changed the password when I first got the superhub, but I've reset it twice (holding reset for 30 seconds until the lights turn blue) and the 'admin/changeme' default password is not recognised. Initially I was using the passphrase and WPS pin with the Blu- Ray but they don't work with the device.
Right now, I'm trying to get through with typing the SSID manually. It gives me the following options
Open
WEP
WPAPSK (TKIP)
WPAPSK (AES)
WPAPSK (TKIP/AES)
WPA2PSK (TKIP)
WPA2PSK (AES)
WPA2PSK (TKIP/AES)
Will any one of the above options work with the passphrase or WEP password at the back? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm seriously out of my depth here.

Only because you hijack every single thread that mentions the SH to comment about the wireless performance...

Re: Samsung Blu-Ray player won't connect?
Problem solved! I wasn't resetting the superhub correctly and once I did, it was as simple as changing my password and enabling the modem.
Thanks for your help Maximus.

I sure do. I don't like to beat about the bush and when I see the same topics coming up time and time again I like to get to the point, give the best advice I can to the user and ultimately help them solve their problem as efficiently as possible which is why they came to the forum in the first place. If you would like to trawl through all my posts and find one where I have given someone incorrect or bad advice you are more than welcome to try.

Re: Samsung Blu-Ray player won't connect?
Well, in this case, his wireless isn't dropping out, as you were sure it would.....
It would appear you were pre-judging incorrectly.

Re: Samsung Blu-Ray player won't connect?
we'll see, it has only been connected for a few hours and as far as we know he hasn't even tried using it. There is hope yet

Re: Samsung Blu-Ray player won't connect?
It is unusual to hope for bad things for others, just to prove you are right.....

Re: Samsung Blu-Ray player won't connect?
yeah it does sound bad doesnt it. Unforunately I am one of those people who likes to be right all the time. I just realised that in the interest of covering all bases I missed another one of my constant negative comments of "buy a proper router" as well.
Joking aside though, of course I want it to work. I want it, and more importantly THINK IT SHOULD, work for everyone which is why I am very passionate about my opinion of the shub. I dont care whether it is a shub or Cisco router, you should be able to plug it, jook up your printers, mobiles, consoles, blu ray players and anything else you can think of and you should be able to enjoy them. Pleasure and satisfaction (no rudeness intended) is the whole point of stuff like this. It is all about entertainment and as geeks when you buy new toys you get excited and want them to flipping work.
