What would it take for you to move to Sky?

Hey everyone

just wondered your thoughts on this...

The main two reasons I love my VM services is the three tivo tuners and the really fast fibre broadband.

Sky are getting fibre broadband soon, so if they launched a new tv box as good as tivo I might be convinced to switch (depending on price too).

What would it take for you to switch to sky?

(also do you think sky will launch a new tv box?)

Re: What would it take for you to move to Sky?

We did have all three services from virgin, but nearly 12 months ago had problems with the broadband which seemed to drag on and on so went with sky for phone and broadband which we are happy with can stream netflix on 3 devices at the same time quite comfortable and thats on a 11 meg connection,tv side love our tivos too much more hd channels im sure will come soon enough soon history hd is the channel i want the most but with having the usa version of netflix there is loads of content from the history channel in hd.

Re: What would it take for you to move to Sky?

I thought about moving my XL TV to Sky but it is far far more expensive so they would have to reduce their prices and currently my only viable fast internet option is cable broadband as i can only receive a max on 8Mb on a BT line.

Re: What would it take for you to move to Sky?

I'd need the local planning laws relaxed to allow me to have a dish mounted and the large trees outside removed, and a broadband connection that could match Virgins upcoming 120 meg service.

Can't see any of these requirments being met any time soon

Re: What would it take for you to move to Sky?

The only advantage Sky has is it has a few more channels but other then that Virgin's all round package is better and that suits our family best.

Re: What would it take for you to move to Sky?

I agree with you den. The extra channels that Sky offer don't warrant a switch for us either. It's really only the F1 channel for us that's a pain. We had an issue with Sky which prompted us to change to VM anyway.

Re: What would it take for you to move to Sky?

I guess I am price driven. So that would be the main factor. BB infinity is here. My son says that even that is not as fast as mine ( 10 meg !!!). So that would need to improve.
Also have problem with land line ( If that is a requirement) . When Cable Tel ( that goes back some time) put in my TV & phone line. I quite clearly remember the engineer cutting the BT line & removing the socket with the words you won`t need that anymore, one less wire running in the house! Sky sales staff sort that lot out & I for one am open to offers !

Same here, I moved all 3 services over to Sky because of a broadband issue, I did miss the V+ box at first because me and the wife used catch up a lot, but now we have series link on the Sky+ box that's solved it.

I've just signed up to Sky's fibre broadband service which should go live on the 28th of this month (fingers crossed).

In the past twelve months with Sky, Ive had at least 1 issue with all services, the broadband at first which was quickly traced to a line fault and fixed by BT, the phone developed a noise (like a fax machine) which resulted in it being fixed within 24 hours by BT.

The TV also developed a fault where the channels were breaking up and some recordings were failing. A Sky engineer came out within a few days and replaced everything including the dish. Overall the picture quality on Sky standard definition is leaps and bounds better that Virgins (IMO), in fact it's that good I don't bother paying the £10 a month for HD, I don't see the point.

This might not paint a particularly great picture but what I will say is, I've never once spoke to overseas support (which is always a bonus) and all issues have been resolved pretty quickly, couple to that the follow up support after reporting any fault is great and makes you feel like your being looked after which is novel these days.

Sky give the impression of a well organised company, something which I find sadly lacking with VM, who quite frankly seem to let the tail wag the dog if you catch my drift.

Just my opinion for what it's worth.

I forgot to mention the 2 tuners thing (multiple recordings clashing) on Sky can be a right royal pain the buttox, so another thumbs up for the V+ in that respect.

For you maybe ! My package with Sky is cheaper and offers me the following VM can't

Multitude of mobile apps
All 6 Sky Sports channels in HD
3D movies and Sport included
Free Wifi at thousands of locations
Many more HD channels
Live TV and OD on a tablet/smartphone
Free evening and weekend call inclusive with line rental

Each individual will have different requirements so it's impossible to state one service is better than another.

I understand what you say however in MY case , none of these reasons are a draw!

Multitude of mobile apps don`t want or care
All 6 Sky Sports channels in HD don`t want or care
3D movies and Sport included don`t want or care
Free Wifi at thousands of locations that would good
Many more HD channels don`t care
Live TV and OD on a tablet/smartphone don`t want or care
Free evening and weekend call inclusive with line rental neutral feeling on that

Each individual will have different requirements so it's impossible to state one service is better than another.
Quite agree

Re: What would it take for you to move to Sky?

If Sky ever drop the HD monthly cost it becomes for viable for me unless Virgin charge me more for dropping XL.

Always nice to hear the masters voice this morning and my package with VM offers me things that good old sky can't offer.

The best STB by a country mile
Huge OD libriary
Functionality
Operability and reliability
Recording capacity
Number of tuners
Supplemental content
Faster broadband
No ESPN fee
HD at no extra cost
Cheaper multiroom subscription
No repair fees
More enhanced GUI
Multiroom streaming sometime soon
