The lady on the Virgin Community forum has just posted that they are aware of the problem with Sky Sports HD but are unable to give a fix time

Re: sky sports 2 sound sync
Yeah I noticed this during the Liverpool game yesterday too. Also some more example of the stuttering sound too. This has been going on for too long now.

Re: sky sports 2 sound sync
I unsubscribed from Sky Sports around last October as couldn't afford to keep it. I have just resubscribed, put Sky Sports HD1 on to watch a bit of the cricket and the sound is still well out of sync with the picture. You can hear the ball hit the bat while you are watching it travelling half-way down the wicket!
Ten months on and the problem still exists! Is this ever going to be fixed? It is really annoying.

Re: sky sports 2 sound sync
There isn't known sync issue on the Sky Sports HD channels, and I checked them today (showing golf & cricket) and they were spot on. So a few questions and suggestions...
- How is the TV connected to the TiVo?
- Are the SD Sky Sports channels affected?
- Are other HD channels affected?
- If you have an amp and your TV has an optical output, connect it TiVo->TV->Amp.
- Turn off any picture enhancements on the TV such as high refresh rates.
- Check if your TV has any lip-sync adjustments. Same for the amp if you have one.
- Try changing the TiVo's Dolby setting, either on or off, and see which is better
- Try turning on Audio Description

The TV is connected to TiVo via HDMI. I have an amp connected to TiVo via TiVo's optical out

Yes, a little. But nowhere near as badly as HD

Have noticed it a little on Sky Living, but only occasionally (but don't watch much on that channel though to be honest). I noticed on one of the movie channels last summer when I last subscribed, but since re-subscribing I haven't yet noticed a problem

My TV doesn't have an optical out

As the sound goes directly from TiVo to amp I'm guessing this part is not necessary and wouldn't make a difference?

My amp doesn't have this feature.

Switched Dolby Digital to PCM and that did make a small difference, but still not perfectly in sync (and also lose the Dolby Digital this way as my amp shows AUTO ST.

Same as above.
I then switched my amp off and turned the TV speaker sound on, so was watching and hearing everything through the HDMI connection straight to the TV and the sound seemed much closer to being in sync. It didn't look 100% but cricket isn't the easiest to judge that on given the speed of the ball/bat etc. However, it was watchable. When I last had Sky Sports I tried using the TV sound when watching football and that did seem a little less out of sync than through my amp, but it still wasn't right.
Conclusion as of tonight seems to be that the problem may lie with my amp? It is quite an old amp, but I've never had problems before only with Sky channels on TiVo. Although, thinking about it, when I used to subscribe to Sky I had this kind of problem with most of the channels. However, the Sky+HD boxes had a setting to delay the Dolby Digital audio, which resolved the problem. Maybe VM could introduce something similar, as I know I'm not the only person that experiences this problem.
Anyway, thank you for your help, Spiderplant. Much appreciated.

Please try it. Remember you are hearing the audio before you see the picture. It's impossible for your amp to produce the sound before it happened, but it's certainly possible for your TV to be delaying the picture whilst it processes the "enhancements".

It's definitely not your amp at fault (except a newer amp would probably have a delay you could use to compensate for the late video)

I have already suggested it, but I don't know whether it will happen.

I would have thought the problem would occur on all channels, if this was the case, not just one or two. But I will give it a try a little later on anyway and see if it makes a difference.
Cheers.

I tried turning off the picture enhancements and can't say that it made any noticeable difference.

Re: sky sports 2 sound sync
All that most of this testing is doing is to turn off the Dolby 5.1 sound. Now the Dolby 5.1 sound is fine with the Movie Channels and with pretty much all of the other sources and it is particularly spot on with the BBC HD sound test signals sent out during the day - so why would we assume then that our equipment was faulty or our settings were incorrect when, in my experience it is only the SkySport HD coverage of the cricket where the commentators lips and their voices are out of sync? I suggest that it might be something to do with the way that Sky's live feeds carry sound and pictures and then only from certain of their outside broadcast units.

I have experienced it in the past on some of the movie channels, and occasionally Sky Living, but it is mostly live Sky Sports HD coverage.
If it was solely down to Sky's live feeds, why do many people have no problem with it, but others do? Surely, everyone would have the problem if it was just down to the feed?

Good question - I would have to guess that we get the feed on TiVo from different SKY dishes locally - so down here they are based at Shoreham Harbour (I believe) and then distributed across our local cable network. BUT I could be totally wrong about all or any of this. Are there any reliable websites or journals that discuss how all of this stuff works?

Re: sky sports 2 sound sync
Cricket tonight and the sound in Dolby 5.1 is way out - just watch the guys talking about the match and see if this is the same across the country.

Re: sky sports 2 sound sync
I had issues with the sound sync. It was eventually resolved by putting my TV into Game mode. If your TV has that function, give it a try.
