whats the chrome adapter on back of the superhub ?

Been looking at videos of the superhub on youtube.most are showing a chrome adapter which is screwed into the back of the hub and then the white cable wire in the other end of the chrome adapter.
I'll be self installing the hub myself when i get upgraded in July.So I need to know what the chrome adapter is please.
thanks

It'll probably be an attenuator (changes the power levels) most of the time you don't need one to be installed

Sounds to me like your describing an attenuator. They are not essential to your set up, Virgin will put them on if you have a high (possibly low aswell? not sure, im sure someone else will confirm) signal level. It just improves the connection. If you have no issues with your connection then you do not need one.

An attenuator only lowers power levels. To attenuate means to lower, to increase the power levels (theoretically) you'd need an amplifier.

Just to add to the other answers.

The attenuator is used to bring the downstream signal level (that coming from the network) to an acceptable level for the modem.
If you are upgrading then the assumption is that the signal level you have is correct.
So if you have an attenuator on your existing modem then move it to the new Shub.

Lowers high frequencies only, not required on a modem
