Re: Video output via SCART

Pain in the butt. If I switch the tivo off, and then switch it on. It defaults to scart on my sony telly. I have to then find the sony remote and change to hdmi.
My v+ dox defaulted to hdmi.
Also why is the hd picture so shocking compared to v+ ?

Re: Video output via SCART

Just remove the SCART lead.

Unfortunately SCART has autoselection but HDMI doesn't.

Re: Video output via SCART

Connect a SCART direct from the DVD to the TV. As long as you leave the DVD in standby or powered off when you aren't using it, it shouldn't keep hijacking the TV.

That may vary depending on your hardware. I've got V+ into my Sharp TV via HDMI and an LG DVD recorder via scart. The scart hijacks the tv even with the LG powered off. (dammit!)

Re: Video output via SCART

You could cut pin 8 inside the SCART plug. That would stop it. You'd have to manually select the SCART input to watch a DVD though.

Thanks. That sounds like a useful idea. Would it affect recording to the DVD?

If you look on the pin side of the connector, the pin numbers are usually marked. Failing that, Google for "scart" and you will find many pictures.

My Panasonic TV can be programmed to ignore or accept switching signals from the SCART socket so that might be worth exploring in your settings. I have told mine to start only as an AV unit (rather then TV) and have set it skip all inputs except HDMI 1.

I run a SCART lead to my DVD PVR recorder for archiving purposes - and then a second SCART from the DVD PVR to an old VCR which I use to turn the RGB signal into an RF signal to pump out to the kitchen TV.

When the DVD PVR is on the kitchen sees that. When it's off the kitchen TV sees the TiVo. The only connecting to the lounge TV is via one HDMI cable from the AV Receiver, TiVo, DVD PVR and Blu-ray all connect to AV Receiver ONLY via HDMI cables.

Sounds a bit complicated but all works seemlessly. Only draw back is that the VCR only sends mono sound out on the RF signal - I think they all do and I haven't found a continuously reliable alternative that does achieve this.
