bit of reassurance please!!

just wondered is it ok to have 2 browsers installed on your pc at the same time? chrome and internet explorer? as long as you only use one at a time.

second is chrome as secure as internet explorer? will it still use zone alarm, be protected by avg or do i have to change settings to tell it im using a different browser lol, or does it auto do it?

thanks and sorry for being thick

Re: bit of reassurance please!!

A browser is simply a browser, you can use as many as you like even at the same time. ZA is a firewall so will work with any browser... AVG special features may not work with some browsers as it tends to plug directly into them. Check the settings /and/or documentation

Re: bit of reassurance please!!

Hi Jane, I run firefox, chrome and IE and at times will have all 3 open at the same time. Your antivirus program just works on anything that you are using so you shouldn't have any problems there either.

I stand corrected on the AVG special feature maybe causing a problem Kymmy. I use MSE and have never had any problems with that or Avast which I used until recently.

Re: bit of reassurance please!!

Most AV's (like MSE) just scan the saved files (like temp folder..etc..) where others actually plug into the browser and check plugins, URL's..etc.. (like S&D which plugs into IE but not FF)

Re: bit of reassurance please!!

Seems ages since I used S&D, if I remember rightly I uninstalled it when slowed down my start up. Never realised it didn't work with FF.

Re: bit of reassurance please!!

MSE = Microsoft Security essentials (an anti-virus program) and FF = Firefox (a web browser)

Re: bit of reassurance please!!

Sorry Jane. mse is Microsoft Security Essentials, a free antivirus program and FF is Firefox, a browser that I enjoy using as it has some interesting and helpful add-ons that you can choose to install.

Kymmy I shall gracefully retire.

I have about 8/10 browsers on my PC and I can run them all at the same time if I want to so do not worry as your security will work with them all.

Although I have Firefox, IE, Chrome and Safari installed I only ever tend to use Firefox for browsing.. The only reason for the other browsers is to test out CSS styles on other browsers for the websites I run.
