Re: STV opting out of more shows
STV have for a while now, chosen to opt out of ITV dramas and prefer to shown home grown content, which then means we don't get the good drama till well after its initial broadcast.
There is a way round it though as the ITV audio description channel is still on VM.
At least they are showing the new Titanic series

There is also this article on the BBC News from yesterday(5th March)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotlan...iness-17258458
Quote:
STV and ITV have reached a deal over the Channel 3 network which could mean some missing favourites returning to Scottish screens.
For three years, the Scottish station has dropped some major ITV1 programmes including several dramas.
STV stressed the new agreement with ITV won't affect its ability to broadcast Scottish programmes.
However, observers believe it will mean fewer network programmes being dropped completely.
If regulator Ofcom backs the plan, STV will pay a fixed amount for the whole network schedule regardless of how many programmes it actually chooses to show.
|
Quote:
BBC Scotland understands that STV will still be able to drop a network programme if it believes the programme will not play well with Scottish viewers. The station will still also be able to schedule its local programmes whenever it wants to.
But the deal means STV will no longer save money by dropping a major network drama or other individual programmes.

This is the next step towards a takeover of STV Group plc by ITV plc!

ITV would need to spend something like £40 million to buy STV, plus a fighting fund because it's unlikely the board of STV would agree to it, so it would be a hostile takeover. Plus, STV is currently a loss-making business, so ITV would have to explain to its own shareholders why this was a good use of their money. There has been takeover talk in the past but nothing for some years now.
That aside, I wish ITV plc would buy up the whole lot and then initiate mass sackings at Pacific Quay. They are a bunch of muppets, hiding behind their exclusive regional franchises as an excuse to drag their heels over the launch of STV HD (which is still not available by satellite) and showing complete incompetence when it comes to spotting network dramas likely to be of interest to a Scottish audience e.g. (Downton Abbey Season 1 was not shown on STV until just before Season 2 - yet at the time STV held up its decision not to buy it as an example of how good it was at choosing the right material for a Scottish audience).

ITV has cash reserves of £800 million, ITV could claim if they turned it round it would make quite a lot of money, also there could be savings in STV when it intergrated with the rest of ITV. So there are benifits to a STV/ITV merger.

NO it isn't. You are just obssessed with takeovers!
Its a step to a beter agreement between the two companies and also means that STV are less likely to not show ITV dramas as it will no longer save them money.

I can see STV buying all the Scottish areas up for Local TV (Channel 6) and give up Channel 3 and broadcast STV shows from yesteryear.
