NHS Spends Millions On Larger Equipment For Obese - Put an extra tax on Fast Food

http://news.sky.com/story/1575334/nh...ment-for-obese

I know loads of people that are obese, trouble is. This is what is putting pressure on the NHS.

Apart from what the NHS can supply is quite simple. The Government keep advising us on what tax they can put on. They can start by putting an extra tax on fast food chains, like McDonalds or KFC etc

Most of my friends go into Fast food chains and fish and chip shops and buy crap food. I know someone that has second's at cafes.

This is what is causing the problem. You have to start at the beginning, to find out what people are eating. Yes, they may have a medical problem that makes them obese. But l would say that fast foods is a close second to that.

I am allowed KFC once a week, and that is GPs orders

Some of my mates are in the 20 stone region, l weigh 17 stone, but cycle each day in my job and check my weight each week.

But l believe that an extra tax can be placed on fast food chains, and work upwards

When we sort out what people can and can't eat and their weight.

we should sort out how ugly they are.
how they talk.
how they walk.
how ugly their baby is.
how pretty their gardens are.

we probably won't though because they don't involve being able to make a big fat profit. and to get richer.

Say we did pay this tax and there's still fat people.
have fat people. and all those upcoming fat people earned the right and payed the fat tax demanded off them to be fat and proud?

or are we still going to say they're costing us millions even though the fattys have paid millions in that tax money?

re: NHS Spends Millions On Larger Equipment For Obese - Put an extra tax on Fast Food

Taxing foodstuffs will not stop people becoming obese. Except for the few who have genuine medical problems obesity is caused by poor diet and lack of exercise, it's as simple as that!

Put whatever taxes you like on food but it won't solve the problem. As long as people continue to settle down for hours in front of their TVs or PCs eating their supermarket ready meals, home delivered fast foods and curries and pizzas, and drinking vast quantities of wines, beers, etc. Then they go to bed. They get up next morning probably miss breakfast except for a coffee, get in the car to go to work maybe pick up a disgusting McD McBacon Roll on the way. They sit at a desk snacking on high sugar or high fat snacks and other rubbish until it's time to go home and the cycle starts again.

They probably order their food online to be delivered so don't even get a walk around the supermarket.

Late that evening they are probably supping a beer or glass of wine while they chat on forums or FaceBook complaining about their ailments, bad guts, increasing weight, blaming everything on anybody else except themselves, saying the government ought to do something about it!!!!

Education and encouragement is what is required, not taxes!!!

Rant over!

re: NHS Spends Millions On Larger Equipment For Obese - Put an extra tax on Fast Food

There's nothing wrong with fast food.

There is something wrong with people who eat almost nothing but fast food.

Lazy? Don't know how to cook at home? No time to cook at home?

Taxing it would be a stupid idea, as would a "Sugar Tax". Look at the taxes paid on tobacco and alcohol. Have they diminished demand or just filled the tax coffers?

And anyway, what's the difference between fast food and eating in a cafe or restaurant? Speed of delivery perhaps, definitely cost, but probably not much difference in calorific values.

The modern answer to any problem tax it its pathetic and it's time certain people took responsibility for themselves you don't need to be an expert of anything to know three big macs and two large fries a day isn't good for you. Oneway to cut down on it is to stop giving benefits to people with issues directly linked to their lifestyle that would be one big step right there or failing that give them an appropriate timeframe to resolve their lifestyle and then cut benefits. We need less tax in this country not more and certainly no new ones to be abused by whatever lot gets voted in in the future.

re: NHS Spends Millions On Larger Equipment For Obese - Put an extra tax on Fast Food

I'm much better than I used to be, always eating in fast food places. Now only once a month when I have a burger king at Addenbrookes while I'm there. The prices in there feel like there's a tax on it already.

I wish my GP told me to though - that'd be great.

No. I think Arthur means that he might like to go to KFC like 7 days a week. but his doc's ordered him that he's only allowed once a week.

Unless you're 7 feet tall you might need to lose a few pounds yourself, Sir. You need to be 6'4" to not be classed as clinically obese.

A tax on fast food wouldn't make a dent on those who are better off, and punishes those who are less affluent but might want a treat here and there.

I'd suggest we need to increase the price of not just fast food but all convenience food, and mitigate it with subsidies for healthier options.

That or work on ensuring eveyone has more money.

Fundamentally, though, when you can eat your 2,000 calories a day in junk for a couple of quid, while it costs way more to get your 2,000 calories a day from good foods, there's always going to be a problem at the lower end of the income scale. Taxation isn't going to help with that.

The sugar tax I do kinda get, especially when it comes to fizzy drinks that are laden with the stuff. Fast food, no. Unfair to single that out while leaving half the contents of an Iceland store and indeed most of every supermarket's ready meal aisle alone.

Hom3, that would be perfect on expenses. I can never understand why they get a wage, when they can claim everything on expsenes.

Next time people eat a Kebab, can you imagine how much fat is in that. In fact with Jamie Oliver saying that there must be a tax on sugary drinks. makes me wonder. Wasn't he ranting about food supplied in school. Because he couldn't get his own way with the government, he has started saying this.

If truth be told. Jamie half asleep Oliver isn't interested in sugar and there being a sugar tax.

it's just his over inflated ego talking to keep him in the limelight.
