Do new customers get brand new equipment?

Hi,

I'm new to this forum so please be gentle

I got virgin media installed in november there as a new customer with 2 tivos, one a 500gb and the other a 1TB along with 50meg and a VHD box.

What id like to know is if the equipment I got installed was new or had been refurblished or had been used in someone else home.

any info would be much appricated.

thanks

Lee

Re: Do new customers get brand new equipment?

There is no real way of telling, but the vast majority will be new at the moment as Virgin are making an ongoing transition from the old SD V boxes and the V+ to the Cisco HD and the TiVo for all customers.

They come in different types of packaging. But the chances are all your equipment is new.

Re: Do new customers get brand new equipment?

My terabyte tivos have a date of over a year ago, the installer will know but you won't find out, even if you ask the installer we usually say its new anyway

Re: Do new customers get brand new equipment?

If you get a refurbished box it will be like new and it will be very unlikely that you could tell the difference, as long as it works the should not be an issue as the box at all times remains the property of Virgin Media so any issues would be rectified free of charge.

Re: Do new customers get brand new equipment?

What about an item with cosmetic damage such as scratches, could a customer refuse something that looks a bit bashed?

Usually they look fine but as you do not own the equipment the should be no reason to refuse it unless it looked exceptionally worn which should be unlikely considering that it would have had to clear the companies quality control department.

If the cover or front panel is scratched, it gets replaced as part of the refurbishment process.

Red face Re: Do new customers get brand new equipment?

We (Installers) can usually tell if it's new or refurbed, but 99.9% of refurbs work just as good as new hardware, however it's all owned by Virgin so there is no choice really (only the installers), if a refurb doesn't work properly it would usually be swapped out there and then for a new piece of hardware
