some praise for Virgin
Just thought i'd give virgin the thumbs up for the Tivo Installation today,
Engineer was excellent, arrived at stated time, nice and friendly although think the tea and chocky bics helped!!!
Installed Tivo and put my V+box in bedroom, he set up the remote to work with my tv, and showed me the basics on how to work Tivo. He also asked if i had any series recorded on the V+box, wen i stated that i had, he then showed me how to set them up on the Tivo.
Took about 40 mins to complete and couldn't fault the installation or the engineer.
10 out of 10 to the engineer for a excellent service, its been nice to give some praise for a change instead of the moans and groans, and yes i have experienced a nightmare installation before!!

Huh. I've offered three separate engineers tea and biscuits when doing installs or adjustments and they never take them. Maybe they're just not tea drinkers, which I can understand as neither am I.
Good to hear the engineers getting it right. Counterbalances all the negativity that these types of forums are usually about!

Re: some praise for Virgin
where they chocky bics though lol
Also had it the other end of the scale
I've also had the nightmare installation where the engineer stapled through a gas pipe, sealed it with silicone sealant, then told me an hour later on his way out with "by the way, ive gone through ur gas pipe, but its ok now ive sealed it"
erm 45mins later, national grid find gas leak and cap gas off, no heating/cooking and its feb lol
virgin did fix the pipe the next day and they paid for it and organised the plumber themselves, must be my charm lol

I remember when my Mum and Dad got cable installed back in 1995. My Dad offered the guy a can of beer....... and he drank it whilst doing the install. Change days!

Maybe it's just my rose-tinted specs, but I bloody loved the 90s. Such a great time to be British, a lot of good music and films etc.
Hey did your parents get one of those Scientific Atlanta boxes with the gray/orange buttoned remote? The Nynex years?

It was very similar to the following box:

I think we only got about 48 channels.

Re: some praise for Virgin
Ha! Looks even older than the one my family had. I can't find a picture, but it had a red LCD on the left with little dots between the numbers for notifications and a load of lipped switches in a single row running from the LCD to the edge.

Its not always a good idea. My first Virgin installer accepted a cup of coffee. I pushed the boat out with some really good stuff I'd got in especially for Christmas last year. He left half of it, failed to comment on its quality (which for me was the biggest crime!), left me with an SA box that needed replacing a month later and messed up next door's signal which required a re-pull to sort out.
I wish I hadn't bothered. In fact, the only person to get a decent cup of coffee out of me since then was the lady who's car my wife hit in the snow.
