To much detail for peace of mind? (Lag in certain games)

Hey guys lately iv been having problems with lag on numerous games I have been playing, these include Age of Empires online and also the onlive game service. Now I am not sure if its just these games and there servers/hosts but whenever I ask if anyone else is getting lag its "No, mines perfectly fine".

See my ping test in the URL, I rang up Virgin and honestly, this Indian chap I spoke to was helpless, I described my problem and he kept assuming I am talking about my download speed, as many times as I said I am having problems with latency in games, my download speed is perfect he refused to understand what I was saying and kept referring back to download speed, eventually he asked what router I was using and when I told him, that was his cue to pass the blame, he insisted it was a problem on my end and that because I am using an airport extreme base station I should ring apple.

Now I am not saying that hes wrong about everything being fine, it probably is, but I just didn't appreciate that he had no idea what I was talking about. Now I have tried other games, mainly MMORPGS such as WoW and Rift and latency seems fine there, but since speaking to the folks on the onlive forums and age of empires online forum, many of said they have had the same problem, horrible lag in these titles and they rang their ISP and it turned out to be a problem on their end.

So I guess for peace of mind, I just want to know that iv either been unlucky with the titles iv been playing and that it should fix its self from a consumer standpoint due to developers tweaking the service/game.

With regards to power levels I have forgot what the IP is to check, I did ask on the phone and they said they were acceptable.

So yeah any help would be appreciated : )

VM Dont really class latency as an issue on their network. They are in the download speed race, to the detriment of an actual quality connection.

Try running the Thinkbroadband quality monitor (http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/monitors/create.html) for a few days and see what your connection looks like. There is a thread for them here so you can compare: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/12...ults-post.html

Also try downloading winmtr and after it installs put in the game server ip address

winmtr shows all nodes on the way to the game server and will give you a percentage loss for each node...if any
