Odd routing?

Hi guys was just wondering if anyone could help, Since upgrading to R30 I've been using modem mode as the superhub wireless refuses to play nice. This caused my IP to change which I'm assuming is due to the router having a different MAC to the superhub.

The problem is that it seems to be a completely different ip range to the one I was on previously, and everything indicates that the locale is Stockport, with the ip address I had previously being recognised as located in Southampton. I live in Winchester which is about 11 miles from Southampton and a fair few more to Stockport, so naturally I would assume the former to be better than being routed all the way up the country and back down again?! Speedtests are notably lower now I'm supposidly on the Stockport route and speedtests have gone from a steady 95-97Mb to 70-80Mb.

If I ring Virgin would they see this as reason enough to force an IP change? If not, am I able to spoof the MAC of the superhub that is connected to the router, or would that cause some kind of conflict? - also are there any downsides to spoofing the MAC?

For reference the IP im on now is 86.4.32.112, and previously was 82.25.190.104.

Cheers for any help anyone can throw my way,

Dave.

Re: Odd routing?

Ignore that stuff you're being routed properly, it's just 'everything' guessing where you are and getting it wrong.

inetnum: 86.4.32.0 - 86.4.79.255
netname: NTL
descr: NTL Infrastructure - Oldham

inetnum: 82.25.190.0 - 82.25.191.255
netname: NTL
descr: NTL Infrastructure - sotn-09

It's just a description, which is cosmetic.

Re: Odd routing?

Ah ok cheers. Just out of curiousity would it be possible to clone the MAC of the superhub that is connected to the router without issue? There is certainly a noticeable difference in speed now. Is it against Virgin policy to spoof MAC adresses or are you free to experiment?

Re: Odd routing?

A tracert to your current IP address shows that you are on SOTN9 (Southampton) which is where you were on your old IP address. The can be no misrouting because that's physically where you go.
