Labour MP Chris Bryant mentions TiVo live on Sky News
Labour MP Chris Bryant was being interviewed on Sky News today. At approximately 17:13 he talked about some of the great things they've done at first, including interactive, and Sky+ but then mentioned that Sky + "was a steal from the United States where they had TiVo before us". He then went on to state that the company was anti competative in the way they bundle their channels. However that is for another forum, not in here.

Very true and he also mentioned about the advertising budget of the 2 in the House of Commons debate yesterday.

Re: Labour MP Chris Bryant mentions TiVo live on Sky News
Wow, now that these politicians don't need to suck up to Murdoch any more they seem to be growing a pair.
So just a few weeks ago Sky was so great an origanisation that News Corp could take over full ownership and the world would be a great place and now that Murdoch has MP's on his back this genius comes out with its packages don't allow competition? I would have thought bundling is irrelevant in the bigger scheme of things.
I'm still surprised how no one raised the issue over VM's channel sale to Sky only for Sky to eliminate Freeview channels in order to get one up on BT and freeview.

The Labour MP did comment, incorrectly I felt, that some of his constituents were forced to pay Sky for television because no other services functioned in their particular locations (including Freeview I assumed). Surely Freesat should be available to them, which is nothing to do with Sky.

Maybe they meant sports which Sky Sports nor ESPN is available on Freesat.

I doubt he meant that (unless he is very stupid) as Sky have covered their backs against this accusation by offering freesat from sky.

Sure, and there's also Freesat (not the same as Freesat from Sky) which uses an alternative EPG. He's the MP for Rhondda so it follows that he was referring to areas there where cable is unavailable and Freeview signal is either poor or non-existant. I felt he was talking without being in full possession of the facts. There were other competitors to TiVo prior, or around the same time as, Sky+ was launched. The idea of a PVR wasn't unique to TiVo back then.
