red flashing LED on Samsung 2100C since power cut

Hi, I had a power cut around 5pm today and when i have come to reboot my samsung 2100c stb all i get is a the power button light flashing red at me all the time.
I have done the usual checks of removing the viewing card and removing power for 30 secs and then trying again but all i get is the flashing red light no other information comes on the LCD screen.
I rang VM customer service and was told that it was a problem in my area that they were aware of an it would be fixed shortly but i get the impression its the box itself thats at fault as usually if it were a network issue i would at least get something come on screen when i press the power button?
Anyone know if it would do that if it was just a network issue or if its the box thats kaput?

Your box is indeed kaput. Call again later and hopefully the area fault will have been cleared.

ps. Welcome to the forum!

I thought it was kaput, ive just rang them back and there is still a network fault in my area and so they won't log the problem until thats been resolved and who knows how long that will take. My internet is through the STB as well so having to browse from my phone atm

Re: red flashing LED on Samsung 2100C since power cut

If your internet is via the STB it's worth contacting VM for an upgrade to a separate modem. It shouldn't cost much if anything given that internet via STB has been a legacy system for some years. Your speeds should be faster for similar cost and overall it should be much more reliable.

Yeah although ill be happy to get more reliable better broadband speeds by having a standalone modem, i had tried to avoid this as have no spare plugs at the back of the tv where the virgin cable comes into the house so will now need to find another plug for a modem as well as the router, dvd player, console, and stb plugged in already

Re: red flashing LED on Samsung 2100C since power cut

The modem is standalone. It doesn't have to be in the same place as the Set Top Box. The incoming cable would be fitted with a splitter, so an extra length of cable to the new modem location can be added.

Besides the modem draws such a low level of power that a multigang power adaptor for all your TV, DVD modem etc is quite normal.

It is quite possible if you upgrade that you'd be provided with a Virgin Media hub which would be a modem and wireless router combined, so you wouldn't need the extra power point.
