Virgin Media V HD Surround Sound

Hello All!

Just got Virgin TV installed today with this new HD Box.

I notice there is no surround sound ports found on traditional boxes with the Red and White slots to connect up to my system.

I notice it says Optical Surround Sound instead? I've never actually heard of this and was wondering how can I use this?

Re: Virgin Media V HD Surround Sound

What surround sound amp do you have?

Something like this would enable you to break out the stereo audio from the SCART socket:

The red and white outputs don't give you surround sound, they only give you stereo.

As far as I know there is no way to go from optical to the multiple jack surround sound. And if their was it would cost a lot.

Then allow me to enlighten you:

Just grab yourself a converter as in the link below or just buy a scart lead with audio breakout cables as in the second link.

Hope this helps

They give Dolby Pro logic. This essentially gives you the three front speakers and a single rear channel.

What surround system do you have? Most systems built since 1999 have the ability to take electrical (phono) or optical digital connections.

Well the first link shows a device that you plug the V boxes optical output to and then you would use a 3.5mm jack to twin phono cable to hook it up to the amp.

The second cable provides twin phono sockets from the scart audio.

Simples.

Hmmmmm The more i look at that first device, although it seems to state differently, i don't believe it will work.
I think that it maybe a converter for optical to digital coax, a totally different ball game.

Stick to the scart option and you will be sweet.

Re: Virgin Media V HD Surround Sound

I have just bought a set of Sony surround sound speakers on e bay thinking that they would just plug into the back of my new t.v. It seems not. As there is only one set of stereo outs on the set as well as the sky box, how do you wire up all 5 speakers to give surround sound? Do I need an additional amplifier specially for the purpose?

Re: Virgin Media V HD Surround Sound

Your speakers should have come with a seperate surround sound amp/reciever.

Also, do you have a Sky box, or Virgin Cable box? If it's a Sky box, I'll move these posts into their own thread on the correct forum.
