I have just discovered that...
.....On the TiVo you can pause live tv and still be able to access alll the menu functions. You can set up further recordings, series links etc while the live channel is paused. That is one big advantage over the V+.

Never knew I could but just tried it and the same thing can be achieved on my Sky+HD box so thanks you've taught me something :-) I think your right though I don't think the V+ could do this.

Yes this is a very good function of the box as I also discovered it by accident  It does seem that even though we have had the boxes a while we are still discovering new things about it and what it is capable of

Sounds like you clasping at straws trying to find ways the Sky+HD box competes with TiVo. Never! Muppetman, never! LOL

The V+ box didn't have to pause live TV while setting up a recording as the video window was available in all the menus whereas the TIVO can't mange it
