Can Tivo play mpeg or avi files?
Hi folks, Got my new Tivo in Thurday and can report no real issues. I quite like the new menu, which is many time better than the the V+ box and there is finally no menu lag.
I was wondering if anyone has managed to play mpeg or avi file through their tivo? I know you can copy show from the Tivo to your PC, using tivotogo but can it be done vice-versa?
Thanks.
G!

No it doesn't.
Although if you install the Tivo Desktop software and select Australia as the country and put in your Media Access Code, your Tivo box will see your PC/Laptop if you go to the bottom of My Shows. I haven't got it to play anything mind you but it suggests they are talking to each other.

Did you connect the tivo to your network? - I can't see how they can see each other when they're on different sides (WAN/LAN) of the router

I did connect it to my LAN but was unable to confirm how it can see my laptop but it definitely saw it!

Re: Can Tivo play mpeg or avi files?
Well I did try, and the Tivo saw the PC, it showed up at the bottom of the My Shows list, as you said. But when I clicked into that item it immediately killed that entry in the list and went into youtube instead.
I could no longer see 'My PC' in the menu. I tried rebooting both the hub and the Tivo and the best I could achieve was seeing the PC in the menu temporarily.
All this time the Tivo Desktop app couldn't see any Tivo DVRs on the network, not surprising really as they have different IP ranges.
I can't see any priority being put into this, but it would be really good if it did work at some time.
